    Dell is sending out a new keyboard, screws, and a technician tomorrow to get my keyboard off my less than one day old M6500. Whoever assembled it, over torked some of the screws and I am afraid if I put anymore pressure to try and remove a few, I will break something!

    So far, I like the machine other than the trackpoint on my Thinkpad W700ds is much better than the one on the M6500!

    Best Regards,

    Shane

    Fixed. ;) By the way, SSD mini card performances in reading are not so bad.

    @pj11m:
    Thanks for the screenshots!
    Unfortunately this benchmark is pretty useless since it only gives singular values without stating how they were derived. Having a wide spectrum of values is important in connection with SSDs because some manufacturers use a mix of fast expensive and slow cheap cells in one device. So a benchmark might accidentally only test the fast cells and give you values that are too high. I had this effect with a Lexar Expresscard SSD.
    Therefore I asked for something like HD Tune which also gives you a diagram with positive and negative peaks that would show if all the cells have the same quality.

    Edit:
    @Razibus:
    At least the sequential reads look good, but if you have a look at the 4k-block reads and the write rates you'll see that this mini card isn't much better than those cheap SSD cards that can be found in some older netbooks. If this is not just a result of an unlucky cell selection but really the whole drive behaves like this, I guess this SSD will slow down the system a lot, up to temporary freezes if you use this as your system device.

    believe me; this SSD is more than enough as an OS drive; its performance is FAR above any rotational 2.5" notebook drive; the random write speeds are 50-100 times faster than on those cheap SSDs in netbooks which cause slowdowns

    Remember that this is still the Samsung RBB controller which has one of th ebest records in terms of real world performance and reliability (there were no crappy firmwares at all on the samsung drives while intel and indilinx messed up at least 1-2 versions with BIG bugs

    additionally random write performance is better than on my P128 SSD (which was a great drive in its time and still feels extremely fast) so OS stuttering should be 100% absent

    Looked at HD tune, but had to pay for that software. I can run it with the trial version on the SSD mini card if that works for you?

    I guess the trial version should be sufficient. But I can't tell since I never used it.
    You can also look for the older version 2.55. This is freeware.

    I need a hand with my new m 6500. If I understand correctly I need to be in AHCI mode for TRIM to be operative?

    To do this I go into the BIOS and switch from factory RAID ATA setting to AHCI mode then reboot and WIN 7 will automatically enable TRIM?

    I need the experts here to confirm this before I try it.

    Any advice appreciated.
