I installed an SSD in my Latitude 13 and there was hardly a difference in battery life but I will install a G3 when they come out.

Just bought a V13 (ships next week), and have been looking at the manuals, specs etc...can someone go into the boot sequence / options and tell me if it is possible to boot from the express card slot? Would love to know, as that would open the option to get an expresscard ssd to use as a boot drive, in addition to having plenty of storage internally. Many thanks if you would be kind enough to check and post your findings...

I tried a 8GB Lexar express card for additional storage and it worked fine.
The only issue was it stuck out about 1 cm from the laptop body - not good.
I am now using a 4GB SD Kingston SD card for Ready-boost and it works very well!;)

Interesting ... can you post the detailed instructions for overclocking the V13? :)

For the original links, please see post #294 in this thread. It's a hacked version of SetFSB (or something similar) that only works with the clock chip originally in the Vostro V13. Months later, people reported it wasn't working on their laptops, at which point it was discovered the Vostro was using a new chip (see post #477). I figured it was a pretty low probability that my Vostro would have the old chip.

When I opened my Vostro to put in an SSD, I noticed the model number of the chip and saw it was the old one. I don't know if that's because my motherboard is old (it's a refurb unit) or if Dell switched back to those chips at some point.

The utility, once run, overclocks the unit by 25% (200 mhz to 250 mhz fsb).

Thanks for your reply-much appreciated. Just wondering though about installing another operating system on the expressd card, and if it is possible to boot directly from that (if you look in your bios options, or boot order before windows starts up, that will show if it is possible to boot from) Thanks for your help, or if anyone else wants to chime in?

Pretty cool that is just as thick as a 3DS... I figured that the M11x would be roughly double the size, seems like its just a tad thicker.

I don't get it. It's $356 new from Dell but the refurb is $364 + shipping? Is this bad math by Dell or something hidden?

I don't know how you arrived at $356 for a new unit unless you added the $8 shipping to the base price of $349. The base model which is feature rich sells for $349 plus $8 shipping and Tax.

Nope not bad math by Dell, rather smart on them. They are clearing out the Vostro V13 from their stock for the arrival of their new ultra-portables this month. Their Outlet units are always the last to go as 85% of buyers prefer new. Also on this forum you can find Dell Outlet coupons for 15-35% off.
