Ed, I was sure the V13 would get better than this one....I use brightness all the way because of my eyes :), wifi always on.....just surfing and word doc's etc...I haven't tried it movie watching, etc.....I do have LED screen....I'm going to test it all the way to zero tonight...I've been extrapolating and going by what some others guys have reported in the 1220 Owner's Cafe....

I agree, this looks like a nice laptop, but the Asus UL30 and Acer 3810T get much better battery life with similarly spec-ed machines. That matters for an ultraportable.

As far as using this or the 5310m as a "netbook" I think that is a stretch. 13" size is enough to be a primary laptop. My Latitude E4300 is 3.9lbs, 13.3" screen, and ~1" thick. Pretty much as portable as these CULV laptops, yet it has a standard voltage chip and an optical drive built in. Dell needs to take some pages from Acer/Asus' playbook and work on battery-life.

I, for one, would like to see a 13" form factor Latitude from Dell with an Arrandale low-voltage chip and no built-in optical drive. If they can get it closer to 3lbs and squeeze ~6 hrs of real-life usage out of it then I will replace my E4300 post haste. Oh and please upgrade the 13.3" screens cause the one in my E4300 has horrible vertical viewing angles.

If I was looking for a "netbook" I wouldn't even consider the V13, I would get the Acer 1810T. Better battery life and same specs with an 11.6" screen (but same resolution) so its even more portable. But the V13 is nicer looking and looks more solidly built.

Yeah well, I may use it as a primary laptop depending on the screen and overall performance.

That looks pretty good, hope they make a 15" ver with a Gpu with some real power. Should be a nice upgrade from my current vostro.

We'll see, I think it's a great deal as it is now, too bad about the non-removable battery though, that's probably the biggest problem for many.
