Mine has the exact same specs.. GOT IT TODAY!!! lol... Original est. delivery from dell was aug 14. (also dhl estimated it wouldnt come till wednesday but i got it monday morning) I am loving it. It came almost fully charged and I ran it for about 5 and a half hours while copying many gigs of music wirelessly. It still had about 20% left but i plugged it in after that. It has some really nice batt life! (i have the 9cell batt).

the 9-cell does stick out about half an inch or more but that is not an issue for me.

I was assuming that the video card would be a slouch, but I can play counterstrike-source with really smooth framerate! I guess that game isn't exactly cutting edge these days, but it is a DX9 game with real demands on the video, and the vostro can really run it without breaking a sweat. (i have the nv 8400m gs).

Hopefully your shipping date was as conservative as mine was.

Problems started with my vostro. When I try to decrease the lcd brightness a strange noise comes from the right corner of the laptop. When I set the brightness to max the noise goes away. When I plug in the ac power the noise stops. Anyone ever experienced this with their new vostro. I guess that this vostro is going back.

mine does the same thing... I'm thinking this comes from the step down power electronics. I've seen it with other devices that use step down voltage... I googled a bit and could not find a whole lot. I noticed that even holding the notebook in the air and changing the orientation would massively effect the amount of noise being emited. kind of strange! The noise is definately coming somewhere from the LCD panel, not the speakers.

Also for those wishing that the sound codec had a low noise floor, sorry to say that it is a very noisy sound chip. It emits an obvious buzzing distortion. Thankfully, If you are listening to the speakers on the laptop, or have music running, it is kind of hard to notice, but if you plug in some headphones and listen to quiet music, or don't play any music, it is really obvious.

Did you contact dell regd. this? Coz this is my 3rd laptop after hp, sony which had high pitch noise issues and I returned them. I am so frustrated that I will kill myself now. What sound is that? Nobody else reported this before. Atleast 2 of us are there now to bring this prob out.

Vostro owners, I need your help:

The 1500 with 1GB RAM (2 dimm -- 2x512MB) will have one stick under the keyboard and one in the RAM slot. But, what if I order a 1500 with only 512MB RAM (1 dimm, according to dell website). Where will this stick be placed?
I want to add an additional 2GB stick later.

I haven't contacted Dell about this problem. I am going to wait a while to see if the problem persists. Also out of the 6 or so brightness steppings, it only seems to happen with about 2 of them. The Vostro do have a 30 day guarantee so we have plenty of time to evaluate the problem. I don't recommend killing yourself over it ;)

I'm hoping under the keyboard. I am thinking of ordering another stick soon to hold me over for the next 5-6 months.

from what i can gather from the older dell notebooks, they always utilize DIMM A first and in the case of the vostro 1500 the DIMM A is located under the keyboard. This means that if they only give you one stick it will be under the keyboard and the bottom slot will be open.
