Has anybody tried calling Dell to see if they'll ship you the OS disc since they're not included with Vostros?

well I called dell today and mine is in boxing and says estimated shipping 08/01, arrival on 08/03.
I don't know how long it has been in boxing because today was the first time I called, but it does seem odd that it would take at least 2 days to put it in a box.
Anyways when it comes I will try to write up a basic review, and maybe get some pics up but they will probably be low quality because I think my only camera that can easily get pictures online is my phone

    I received my Vostro 1500 on Jul.27

After playing for 2 days, here are some thoughts and problems:
    1. Good finish and nice look. A bit heavy. 7 lb. with 9-cell battery. 6.2lb. w/o battery.

    1. No OS or recovery CD/DVD media

    2. My hard drive have 120GB, there are 4 partitions, ~120MB FAT16 for diagnostics utility, 4.5GB for Direct Media, 2GB (600MB used) for recovery. And rest for OS.

    3. When I tried to use Acronis True Image 10 bootable media to backup the hard disk to my USB external hard drive, the system will freeze, sometimes during loading the program, sometimes during backup stage. The program works perfectly on my X41T. True image also works fine if I attached the Vostro hard drive on my desktop. My guess is that Santa Rose is a new chipset and True Image can not support very well. Has anyone else tried this?

    4. Setup the computer is easy and fast, no trash software installed. Vista index is 4.2, System response is fast and smooth on Vista Basic. Will try Ultimate with Aero some time later.

    5. The recovery (F8) can not recover the system back to original status. I chatted with Dell Rep and they will send a recovery disc to me.

    6. Installation of Windows XP, the SATA driver (using USB floppy) from Intel and Dell will cause blue screen. Haven’t tried the slipstreamed method. Have to change the hard drive to ATA from ACHI to install XP. Anyone else has tried the SATA driver?

    My Vostro 1500 spec:
    Intel Core 2 Duo T5470
15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA LCD display with TrueLife
    2GB, DDR2
    256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
    120G 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
    Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic

Does anyone know the part number for the 9 cell batter for the Vostro 1500? I ordered my laptop with the 6-cell and now I want to get the 9 cell but Dell is totally clueless. I actually spoke to a rep who never heard of "Vostro".

Its already shipped :) Apparently they haven't released the batteries for the Vostro 1500 for individual sale and they are not the same batteries as the ones used in the Inspiron 1520.
