Thanks for your reply. I'm going the cheaper on too. Also is there just the one option for the power supply?. Is it the same form factor as the 6800-7710? Will my old power supplies work with the 7740?

They probably will, but the power supplies given with the 7X30 are, for equal power outputs, smaller and lighter than those of previous generations—see the first post of the 7530/7730 thread (you'll need to open the spoiler).

If the power ratings are the same, it's 180 W for the 7540, and 230 W for the 7740.

You'd probably dispense with your older ones

Old power supplies work fine with the newer systems. My 7530 is generally only ever attached to an old-style power supply actually (when working undocked). The new one has been staying in my travel bag because it is smaller but my 7530 rarely actually goes anywhere outside of the office. The older style power supplies are larger but have a longer cord so I always bring one of those with me when I am taking my laptop to a meeting or work session.

The older ones are perfect to pick up for places where they can be left stationary, since size wouldn't matter in that case, they work just as well, and they are cheaper.

I can't seem to find the newer version for the 77x0 power supplies. Maybe I'm wrong but maybe only the 7530/40 got updated.

Yes. I believe that it also works with older generation systems (even though it is not listed on the compatibility tab there). They have just shrunk the body, it works the same.

Do you know if the 4k screen has been improved since the 7710 with the 7730 or 7740?

I don't know about the 7740, but I know that 7730 systems were originally shipping with 4K screens that had 2015 manufacture dates so not exactly the latest panels.
