Sounds like there's something wrong with your unit. Mine has no issues with the Vista drivers with Vista 64bit. The only time I get any pops is when I change the display brightness--even then it is random, not consistent.

The only thing that really annoys me is the touchpad acts up from time to time. It'll ignore movement, taps, and scrolls. It feels like their driver has a hard time determining gestures from normal movement. Hopefully that'll be fixed soon.

Yeah the touchpad bug is notorious for affecting a lot of people. I have it too, I think it only happens when my laptop heats up.

I plan to get portable logitech speakers and a logitech mouse anyway. Ive never depending on laptop sound or touchpad to be reliable.

I received my 2400 last week and i found it was slower than my work laptop D620. So yesterday I decided to do a format and clean install of XP and now it seems the machine is alright.

One thing is that i havent installed "Intel_Matrix-Storage-Manager_A02_R190227" because somebody in this thread was mentioning that after installing this driver his/her system became slow. Can somebody please tell me is it really required to install? For what purpose it is being used?

Another thing i did is to remove Dell's touchpad s/w as it was getting stuck most of the time while i browse. Will i be losing any feauture by uninstalling the touchpad s/w?

Any answers will be of great help.

Touchpad software adds functionality to scroll with the pad, circle scroll, tap click, zoom, etc. Same thing applies to the pointing nub.

The Intel driver is interesting. I didn't install it and everything appears to work fine, but I'm not sure if you can "turn off" the DVD drive or use the eSATA port without them. With the Vista drivers, my hard drive worked fine, though.

    Thanks for the response.

So you mean to say the intel driver is not required to install???

The intel driver is not necessary. You can reinstall vista/xp from the dvds, and never need to touch the intel driver. the disk performance in vista's WEI is still ~ 5.3

I had major stuttering on audio playback in vista until I installed the intel driver (but not the management application) on the E6400.

    Hi all.

Just checking in as a new M2400 owner. The guy at Dell said I was the first in the UK to order one - I find that hard to believe.

Interesting to see here that it has issues but what system is faultless, eh? :)

Should I go ahead and format/reinstall Vista64? Lots of pop-ups and 'unnecessaries' annoying me! ;)

    :)
