I tried the Nvidia "System Tools with ESA Support". Nice user interface, a lot of performance settings, but unfortunately all controls have no effect on the actual frequencies. Am I too stupid or are the system tools not working with the Dell driver?

You've got to change the clock speeds to what you want and then save it as a profile. Then go to "Profile Policies" and set it to load your customised profile when you start Windows.

I'm still having trouble getting the fingerprint reader to function in DCP/Embassy. I'm running Vista Business 64 and pretty much convinced that the fingerprint reader doesn't actually do anything and is just there for decoration. Installed in this order :

Gbit ethernet, Quadro, IDT audio, webcam, ALS, Intel chipset, BT, Wi-Fi, Ricoh, DCP Conn, DCP Sys

(TPM still turned off in BIOS)

This is where things get interesting :

    Install DCP Security Driver Pack
    Reboot
    Install DCP Security/WAVE Embassy Suite
    Reboot
Launch Embassy, enroll fingerprints, and after about 2 swips through it loops "An error occured during fingerprint enrollment." and won't continue.
    Reboot
Launch Embassy, it either says "Device closed" or "Connect a fingerprint sensor."
Close Embassy, Device manager now reports that I have a ""broadcom ush cv w/o fingerprint sensor" -- change driver to "w/ swipe sensor"
    Reboot
Device manager now lists "w/ swipe sensor"
Launch Embassy, enroll fingerprints, doesn't even let me swipe and loops "An error occured during fingerprint enrollment."
    Shutdown
    Power up
Enter BIOS and enable TPM and leave it "deactivated"
Device manager still lists "w/ swipe sensor" Hooray!
Launch Embassy, enroll fingerprints, doesn't even let me swipe and loops "An error occured during fingerprint enrollment." :(
    Reboot
Launch Embassy, back to saying "Device closed" or "Connect a fingerprint sensor."
Close Embassy, Device manager now reports that I have a "w/o fingerprint sensor" again. Change driver back to "w/ sensor"
    Shutdown
    Power up
Device manager still lists "w/ swipe sensor"
Launch Embassy, Fingerprint option not even there! No option to enroll! :(!
    Uninstalled DCP Driver Pack
    Uninstalled DCP Security/WAVE Embassy Suite

** important to note that the Secure Logon, Preboot, and Biometric Logon options were NEVER checked. I have not installed the USF firmware. The machine is about 2 days old and shipped with A11 BIOS.

    Suggestions? Anyone?

Thank's for the reply. But it does still not work. Everything has no effect on the GPU frequencies. Are you also running Vista X64?

Just and update I reported earlier of an audio buzz over the external speakers when the power plug is plugged into my laptop. Turns out it is definitely due to electricity effecting the audio cable somewhere, some how in my studio. Its not a problem with the laptop. I purchased a Creative usb x-fi 5.1 external sound card which fixes the problem when i'm in my studio. However the creative x-fi 5.1 works pretty awesome for surround sound mixing so I might end up carrying it around with me.

Hello all - basic question but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere. On my 4400, stamped into the casing to the right of the touchpad is an image that looks like an iPhone with some curved lines around it (signifying motion, or perhaps sound).

A gold star and my eternal thanks to whomever can tell me what the heck that's supposed to indicate!

Just a quick update. Monday a repair guy came to replace my display and optical disk drive. The job was done in just 20 minutes. He just replaced the display not the entire lid. I could clearly see a Samsung logo on the original and new display. Up to now my earlier problems seem to be solved.

I also got a list from the repair guy to reinstall Vista and all drivers in the correct order. This is the list:
    1. Dell Precision M4400 System BIOS
    2. Dell™ Notebook System Software
    3. Intel® Mobile Chipset Driver
    4. IDT® STAC 9205 Audio Driver
    5. nVidia Quadro FX 770M
    6. Ricoh R5C847 Cardbus Controller
    7. Intel Flash Cache Logic Chip (Intel Turbo Memory)
    8. Dell Control Point Security Manager
    9. Intel® 82567LM GigaLAN Network Controller
    10. Wireless driver (Intel Intel(R) WiFi Link 5300)
    11. MDC driver
    12. Dell Touch Pad Driver
    13. Bluetooth® driver (if applicable)
    14. SOL/LMS Driver (Optional: Needed for Intel AMT functionality only)
    15. HECI Driver (Optional: Needed for Intel AMT functionality only)
    WARNING:
You must install the Dell Notebook System Software second followed by the system chipset. Reboot the system between installations.
Also, before installing the modem driver, you must install the audio driver because the modem resides on the High Definition Audio Bus.

Hope I can find time next weekend to reinstall the laptop. This should solve the audio problems when I switch to battery power.

@drsoco I think that's called a touchless smartcard reader. You can move your smartcard over it to read it. But you have to have some kind of software to use it. I haven't used it myself.
