I started to dabble in undervolting but came across the same 1/2 volt multiplier problem.

Has anyone here managed to get their built-in fingerprint reader to function with anything other than DCP/Wave Embassy?

I would like to try using Upek's Protector Suite. But I've gathered that it might not be possible since the fingerprint reader in these machines is tied in to the Broadcom USH thing, which is not the way the hardware is usually configured.

I've read some older threads regarding other Precision machines with these readers, and there was talk of potential support from Upek in the future for these configurations, but I've not come across anything recent.

    Anyone here have any luck?

    Pictures attached for clarity.

Anyone else notice their brightness randomly dropping a notch and then randomly hopping back up a notch on them? I have the WXGA+ LED backlit screen and I'm running Vista64. It's nothing major, just a randomly occuring annoyance.

i contacted UPEK and they told me, that they have support for the chip, bude dell added a proprietary chip from broadcom beetween the senzor and the driver, so it is not accesible by UPEK driver.
The support for this reader is implemented in the upcomming UPEK PSQL 5.9.
but the dell systems won't be supported.
The person from upek told me that there is only one possibility and it is that dell will send their SDK to UPEK.
I allready told my REP but don't know if he did anything in this case.
You may try to tell to your rep.
UPEK allready contacted wave and broadcomm but there was no response, and is i know there is no will from dell to send the sdk.
I'm sorry for the languange, i hope you all can read it.

I do understand. I really appreciate the insight. You saved me the time it would take to do exactly what you did. I'll still pass that on to my rep, but I have zero confidence that this will ever be resolved.

Unfortunately this is not a driver. The file size is only 512 bytes!

I am going to install and try it out now as CS4 keeps having open gl problems with the old driver. (This may be my fault not the driver) I'm hoping for the best.

Hmm yah looks like the link to the file is bad...
