hi all 2homme8080 i have had exactly the same problem, they exchanged my invertor 2times and the seccond time they replaced the screen itself it was in the screen not in the invertor. Just ask to replace the screen and you'll be fine.. i took my technician about 20 minutes to do.

Yes, that noise is a work distraction, and they need to resolve it for you, one way or the other. Trouble comes in bunches like grapes they say...it'll all get resolved!

Hi Homme...i would indeed go for a new screen iso a new laptop if the rest is working fine. Screen replacement is very easily done and with a new new laptop (and your luck 'till now;) who knows what you might have next.

Many thanks for your reply pajadvor. I have decided to contact Dell tomorrow and ask for the screen to be replaced. Your description should come in handy, and I am also relieved that my ears are not playing tricks on me. I still have very good hearing and pick up high frequencies well, but in this particular case it feels more like a liability than an advantage. I will keep you posted as to how this all develops.

By the way theZoid, when I logged in to see these replies, I actually had a small plate of grapes next to my M4400 for some evening munchies... what a coincidence, haha!

Thanks again everyone: great to be part of this forum, and I hope I can soon add some more positive notes to this machines stature in the near future...

How is everyone liking the esata port, has anyone tested it with a raid 0 for speed?? Also has anyone tested the PCMCIA slot with a Panasonic P2 card?

I'm still hoping dell [or someone else] will make a 2.5" enclosure for the media bay drive......as I would rather have raid0 with two internal drives.

An external eSata would be good for backups though, and I plan to get one for this purpose...but haven't yet.....wouldn't even consider raid 0 with a cable attached drive myself.

Really, I don't like Raid0 in any configuration personally.

For me it's risk of data loss because I work from my machine also. But purely for personal and gaming purposes I might do a raid0 for speed.
