Yep,this screen bezel doesn't really have a place on a notebook of this price.
I surprised that dell don't replace it every time its removed as a matter of course.....very,very easy to damage removing it....snaps are not a long term solution in fastening, unless its on something that never comes apart.

Just on a side note, people need to watch the rubber bumpers for the screen on the palm rest....blink and they're gone....like mine:( reminds me of the M60 and the continually disappearing rubber feet, unless you glued them in yourself.

I called Dell in Germany. There is no way to order the M4400 with a second HDD, even a 1.8". Is this option available in other countries?

Do you know if Dell may sell some refurbished notebooks as new? Let me explain what happened to me. My laptop is 19 days old and one week ago I discovered that the LCD screen has a dead pixel. Funny enough I called the tech support and when they came to replace the LCD , the new screen had another dead pixel (even more visible than the one in the old screen). Also I noticed today that there is a considerably deep scratch on the plastic part where the ethernet port is located at . (It is a small piece of plastic that can be taken appart by removing two screws) But since the scratch is at the bottom of the notebook, I didn't notice this until today . I told DELL only the screen problem and finally they promised to replace the entire system. Do you know if they will send me a factory new laptop? I think that since I paid the money I deserve a fully new computer, but I suspect DELLs often sells used computers as new.

Why do you suspect that? If it is a refurbed unit they HAVE to put a green sticker on the bottom saying so. Is this an experience of yourself? Is there no way you could've caused the scratch on the bottom yourself, i mean it wouldn't be too hard doing something like that, right? I don't really see anything in your story to make me think you would have a refurbished system...dead pixels on screens can always happen and as you say, they'll replace it. They are even replacing your whole unit because of a dead pixel!

It's against the US law to do that, hence the Dell outlet...however, they can replace broken new units with refurb's I think....someone may correct me on this.

I just know i got a new one...isn't it down to which service you have? Maybe after a certain period of time or the model isn't produced anymore you'll get a refurb or a diff model

Every class I go into lol :) Every time they do a presentation though I have to turn it down (to ambient settings) because it lights up the entire room.
Everyone else's screens look backlit by candles compared to mine :p

My laptop is Precision M4400, a quite new model, but it's strange that it came with a scratch and dead pixel. DELL would probably tell me that the scratch was not their blame and I did it accidentally, but I know I didn't because I use the laptop very gently, so reported the dead pixel only and they offered me to replace the whole system. I hope this one comes defect free.

one of the managers at DTS uk mentioned that a new bios is currently going internal testing.

apparently bios older than a06 dont report the temps correctly.....sounds somewhat dangerous :S

in addition to this, they are monitoring this forum after i forwarded them links to some of the threads.
