Thanks for the suggestion of setting the openGL overlay on for my c4d video problem but still not working.

Sorry I'm not a techie, I dont understand how to access and install the latest video drivers from laptopvideo2go site quoted. None of the drivers on it seemed to have the right numbers.

If some kind soul could talk me through it I'd be very grateful.

Yes - that is fair enough. I do know that under XP you could hot-unplug an eSATA drive and all was well, but if you plugged it back in it wouldn't recognise it till you rebooted.

I'll try it when my M6400 arrives.

It is flashing blue then orange, and if I disconnect power the machine shuts off. Right now it is working fine, so there seems to be either an issue with the battery or the motherboard of the machine.

Having had previous Dells where the HDMI did not output sound, I was delighted to discover that M6400 does. It actually outputs through both internal speaker and external unless I turn the internal off using the speaker mute option in the sound control panel

That sounds like exactly what I experienced. It was a bad battery. Dell replaced it and I have not experienced that again. I'd call for a replace.

It could also be the charger on the MB. I was able to check mine using a second battery.

Well, I've just been to hell and back with my new Covet.
I found out that I could not run the CHKDSK tool. When I click on properties for my C: drive and ask to check for errors, it says it schedules it to occur on the next reboot. When it reboots, it gives an error when it tries to run the CHKDSK and reports "Cannot open Volume for direct access", and skips the chkdsk procedure. After researching a bit, found out that this is most likely due to some driver getting an exclusive handle on the volume before CHKDSK program has a chance to run. I enabled boot logging and looked closely at the NTBOOTLOG.TXT file, and found a pretty good mess there, like about 6 drivers that were failing to load at startup, and lots of drivers that looked unnecessary. I couldn't isolate exactly which one was causing the volume to lock, so I gave up and re-installed Vista from scratch and it fixed the problem (I can now run scheduled CHKDSK runs just fine).
However, I seem to have one left over "Unknown Device" listed in my Device Manager. This is driving me crazy. I've loaded all the drivers on Dell's support website, and all my equipment seems to be working, including BlueTooth, Wireless ABG card, Touchpad, and even my Webcam. I do not have a fingerprint reader.
The Unknown Device is installed at location "Port_#0001.Hub_#0009"
    The Hardware Id's are:
    USB\VID_413C&PID_8149&REV_0100
    USB\VID_413C&PID_8149

The physical device object name is: \Device\USBPDO-13

Does anyone know what this USB related buggar is?

It's all part of my spider-web, dude. The more people's attention I can draw with the dramatic intro, the more people will actually read it and potentially have the solution at hand for me.

Not to try to scare everyone, but you might want to try to see if you can successfully run the SCANDISK utility. It could have been delivered to me from Dell that way, but I didn't discover it until just now (2 days later). It's kind of an essential thing (SCANDISK) to have.
