    Hi there,

I know of course it SHOULD work using directx drivers, but can you see if the opengl is working?

I haven't used max for a while but I can't remember there being that much difference between direct x and opengl (unless you're using some fancy shaders or something).

    Regards,
    Simon

opengl works much better(no crashing)...but yes, the shaders display much worse and moving around is much choppier with the scenes i opened. opengl is insufficient for type of work i normally do. i noticed the modded drivers take windows out of aero mode when max opens, maybe the issue lies here, not sure though.

the most stable configuration i have found so far is this...

install the 178.46 (latest release from nvidia) driver from laptop2go with the modded inf....after doing this, open up autocad and max (if you use them) so that the performance drivers will automatically install. then reinstall the nvidia driver from dell. this way you have dell's certified driver and you also have the Max and Cad performance drivers installed. for some reason i have the least problems this way.

Good to hear 2nd HD was automatically detected and confugured as RAID 0. But lets assume original HD is 80% full. Unless half the stuff from the original HD is copied over to the new HD then it is going to be a slower RAID 0 system because it is essentially reading most things from the one (original) HD.
Is the system 'smart' enough to redistribute HD files over both HD after installing new HD?

it took about three hours to complete the transfer, so i assumed it did a complete job...reinstalling a new copy of windows now though, hopefully this will end my troubles, but i doubt it.

Just paid $5700.00 for my beautiful M6400, plugged it in, and noticed 4 hours later (all computer sleep time) that the battery was not charging. In fact, the blue light on the power supply turns off as soon as I plug it into the
M6400. The charging light on the machine never illuminates either. I'm sending this dog back and am considering a Thinkpad W700 instead!

Hi all, I'm new to this board, at least in terms of posting, though I've been reading on it for the past 2 months or so. I'm expecting my M6400 (specs in signature) in a few weeks and as I've been going through the posts here, a few questions come up. I know some/all of these issues have been discussed before, but in the course of the back and forth of the discussion, it's sometimes difficult to get a clear understanding of what the best course is, so please bear with me:

    1. Is the QX9300 CPU overclockable (sp?) in the M6400?

    2. Should I try installing apps/files on the computer first and see if there are any driver-OS interaction problems or should I skip that and just do a clean install of the OS when it first arrives ... I've seen both positions stated in the course of the forum, which leads me to my next two questions ...

    3. Apart from the GPU drivers which have been mentioned before (I believe 178.46 w/modded INF, thus far, is the most stable), are there any specific drivers/Dell bloatware that I should stay away from ... for example, the fingerprint scanner if I don't really need it, the integrated camera if I don't really need it and can afford to wait for better drivers.

    4. Has anyone found, in the course of re-installing the OS a preferable order for re-installing the drivers, and is it advisable to backup the existing drivers should I do a clean install, or is that not necessary?

    Thanks :)

I had the same problem on the very first charging: no blue led, there was not any hint that the battery was charging at all. After two hours I got frustrated and just switched the notebook on - and everything was fine. I have had no problem with charging ever since.

Have you tried switching your notebook on, even when there was no indication of the battery charging at all?
By the way, the M6400 is quite superb. :)
