Yeah, if you read the instructions, you'll find that it only works on a few desktop boards. Highly unlikely for this to work on the M6400.

That is a hell of a file.

I tried it with 3ds Max Design 2009 on a quad core (3,2Ghz) machine. I really don't get it. 48 objects, 2 mio polygons and a framerate of around 10 fps. I guess the file itself causes the problem.

These are some external CAD parts brought into max, right?

no, there is a meshsmooth modifier on the objects, causing the complexity....i can open the file just fine with my desktop that has a quadro fx 3500 with 1/4 of the dedicated memory that the 3700m has. the file was made in 3ds max and has not caused the same ( or any) problems on any other machine i have opened it on. i would expect any computer that costs $4000 to be able to handle it.

it might be possible that after i return this machine , i purchase an upgraded version later if price goes down...but it will be really hard for me to go back to the m6400 after this experience.

Can anyone give me a comparison between the T9600 and the X9000 chips (non oveclocked at 2.8)? My rep suggested that the T9600 was actually faster than the X9000 so I went for it (it was replacing a system with the X9000).

EDIT: Seem to have found my answer here

I can understand your point. The idea is that other things are on the chips. Certain Management options, etc.

I have been reading a little. Most of it does point to driver issues. Another topic is:
"Re: M6400 Covet crashing in Maya"
You'll recognize some of the names.

    Also check Auto Desk's forum:
    "Mudbox crash, Vista Ultimate 64-bit"
As I have time to read, I will let you know. But, the holiday is here.

I think someone already mentioned there will not be a coolslice available.
    At least not from Dell.

I finally received my M6400 too now. I ordered it the 28th of september, together with a latitude E4300. The order got new delivery dates, got canceled, reorderd, split up,... but it finally came in this week.

I gotta admit that I'm very happy with this machine. It's fast as lightning.
Since they "could not preinstall my laptop with RAID0 and 64bit", I formatted it as soon as it arrived and reinstalled it myself.

I did not have any problems doing this except one:
I downloaded the new webcam driver and it installed fine, then I also downloaded the webcam software, if I try to install this, it says "... no dell webcam central-card found".

Anyone else having this problem? What software are you using with the webcam? Not that I'll be using it alot but it always feels good to know that it's working.

    Thx

[EDIT] I do feel a little bit sad when I look at the size of the charger, it's really huge, I expected it to be big, but this big?? [/EDIT]

    Hi everyone,

I'm really getting crazy. I just want to run GTA 4 on my machine. But it kicks me out after the "Grand Thef Auto 4 Logo". No messages just right back to the windows desktop.

I tried downloading the 7.15.11.7692 64bit driver for my 2700M but the download link seems to be broken.

    Please help me out.

    Thanks!

hey guys, im considering an M6400, just a couple of q's -

is this thing getting any vender certifications? (maya / xsi / mudbox most important) ive read through a few pages here with problems

also, has anyone tried with SSD's? (im wanting to do some raided intel x-25's for compositing), also is it better to order with 8gb from dell, or go 2gb and go aftermarket?

im moving up from a 17" macbook pro, so also concerned about the build quality and powerbrick sizes
