Do you know anything about AHCI and IRRT?
What should I use for Raid 0? I read that Vertex doesn't support AHCI. Is IRRT for Raid 1 only?

AHCI is now "I think" supported by the Vertex as long as you have the 1199 firmware. The IRRT I have never used, but I think it has something to do with RAID1 using an eSATA hard drive.

The Q43 desktop chipset of the M6400 doesn't support IRRT... so you can't do a rapid restore backup via e-sata and you just can choose between compatibility, AHCI and RAID.

Thanks for clarifying the IRRT issue. I read somewhere else about that and looked in my M6400 BIOS and didn't see it although I've noticed it in the E6500.

So if I have the Quad2.53 will it work?
How does this work? Can it do it on demand? Or do I need the e-sata connected at all times. I would just backup once in a while...
Is there a performance issue with this?

Is the Precision M6400 screen shiny (reflective) or matte? And the outlet has me confused.

What would be the difference between these listed displays from the Outlet:

    17 inch UltraSharp WXGA+ (1440x900) LCD Display

    and

17 inch Wide Screen WXGA+ Laptop Screen

Anything? Or is this just differing data entry? I've talked to several people at Dell, and nobody seems to really know what "Ultrasharp" actually means.

    Thanks...

Long day at work so maybe I need to think about this over the weekend as I don't follow. What you're saying is that the M6400 has some sort of limited Matrix Storage Manager?

"Intel® Rapid Recover Technology is a feature of Intel® Matrix Storage Manager. It uses RAID 1 (mirroring) functionality to copy data from a designated master drive to a designated recovery drive. The master drive data can be copied to the recovery drive either continuously or on request.

When using the continuous update policy, changes made to the data on the master drive while the system is not docked are automatically copied to the recovery drive when the system is re-docked. When using the on request update policy, the master drive data can be restored to a previous state by copying the data on the recovery drive back to the master drive. "

Ultrasharp was introduced to point out that a screen has a high resolution with a DPI of 120 or higher.
Knowing this the WXGA+ [~100DPI] is not an ultrasharp screen. On Dell's homepage it's called premium, but not ultrasharp:

The only glossy screen is the E2E screen --> ultrasharp has nothing to do with matte vs. glossy.
Dell uses "truelife" to describe glossy screens.

Mhhh, I tried to backup my M4400 and my M6400. With the M4400 it worked, but with my M6400 it did not. Perhaps it's a problem when you already have a Raid0 config... ?

You can't have (internal) RAID 0 and Rapid recovery. It says there is already a volume and it can only support 1 (or something like that, I can look at the error if you need as my laptop is setup this way; i.e. I cannot have rapid recovery: Shame because I thought I could and it was only when I received laptop and tried it I found I couldn't
