I am thinking in regards to accidental loss of power or bluescreen whilst writing data.

    My rules:
    1.) Reliability
    2.) Speed
Rule 1 is always > Rule 2 imho...

Edit: Of course SSDs are nothing more than large raid arrays themselves (Made of multiple smaller cells), but most high-performance units have wear-leveling and error checking algorithms to prevent data corruption though use/malfunctioning cells... but RAID 0 is certainly doable as non-critical data - I use raid 0 for server swap disks, raid 1 of OS partitions and raid 5 for file structures. If you are good about doing your backups or have NAS to store your real data then RAID 0 away. The speed is nice and very tempting to pursue

No, I just ordered mine, but I have seen plenty of Vista Ultimate 64 machines running RAID setups. There is no fundamental difference between Vista Business and Ultimate, other than the latter including a few more pieces of software (some games, and media center). Vista Ultimate will run on any system in the same way as Vista Business.

Thanx Pirx. I still have no clear answer from Dell. I guess I can just upgrade Business x64 to Ultimate x64. The configurator online lists Ultimate x64 as incompatible with 2 HD's. Very strange. Though it appears compatible configed with RAID.

Tempting indeed. I actually tend to think this setup would be more reliable, not less, at least vis-a-vis risk of power loss or crash while running. With substantially quicker write speeds, by virtue of using RAID to shorten the write, as well as using super-fast disks, I would think that the odds of the failure event happening during a write will be lower, because each write takes less time. (The percentage of run time with the heads down, so to speak, will be lower.) Of course, eventually, one of your disks will fail, but that's going to happen anyway even with one, and only backups will protect you then. Hmmmm.

Agreed. Post those impressions people! :D

you know i actually had the chance to order this early but because i have been using mac computers for sometime now i decided to wait 2 weeks to see wat stevie will bring out for his macbook pro line. And behold, it was an epic disappointment. It is nothing but just a good looking multimedia laptop with little connectivity when you compare it too "today's standards".

I will miss OS X and its form factor..but right now am looking for power and apple aint cutting it.

I'm interested to hear impressions about build quality. Is is well built? Does it have nice finishes? Does the screen flex? If you press on the back of the screen, can you see any effect on the screen? Any keyboard flex?
How does the keyboard feel? Have anyone tested the jog/shuttle function of the touchpad?

    That's all for now :)
