Yeah and uh, how's World of Warcraft going to run? I know its not that cutting edge, but the Quadro is not a gaming card, and the WoW expansion has graphical updates like shadows & particle effects, so wondering if I'll be able to run WoW with all settings to max, as well as work in Maya etc

The quadro cards are virtually the same as the geforce line (same exact GPU). The only difference is that the quadro has better driver support for CAD and OpenGL type apps....

Which means gaming performance on the 3700 is going to be ROCK-solid:)

Quadro has support for CAD/OpenGL but no for games. Quadro is not good choice for games. GeForce has better performance in games. Yes, is the same exact GPU design (but some specs have been eliminated by hardware or downcloaked) Drivers is the question. Quadro is not all in one GPU and requirements for every task are different. It is because of it for what there are two different versions (Quadro & GeForce), because every version centres on different needs. To say that Quadro is good for games is like to say that Geforce is the best choice for CAD.

I'm sick of this being posted - this is simply not true. The Quadro can handle games fine and the GeForce can handle CAD fine. The difference is that Quadros are "certified" for CAD. You can use the EXACT same drivers for the Quadro as for the GeForce - I know, I've done it on my M4400 - the drivers from laptopvideo2go work fine. Please stop posting this people.

Quadro 3700M has been benched at 10,500 - 11,500 on 3dmark06 - how is this worse than a GeForce????

I would dare to correct that saying:
"To say that Quadro is the best choice for games is like to say that Geforce is the best choice for CAD."

Apart from that, I believe that the 3700 will be able to handle WoW with no big problem. The opposite would really be... impressive.

And as Nyceis posted, until now, the Quadros can use the equivalent GeForce drivres with no big problems.

this question comes up so much on this board everywhere and theres always answers for both sides. I have never seen a "definitive" answer for this question.

    Hi, guys
I'm new here, and I can tell that all of you had been really helpful in making my decision in configure my M6400, as well all this forum.
Here the main features my new M6400 (will be in my hands by mid November):( :

X9100 CPU, I use a combination of application that handles 1 and multiple CPU, so by now a quad core is not needed.
1 GB of RAM, will install 8GB from NewEgg.
64 SSD HD, for system and application, 2nd HD from NewEgg for data.
    Quadro 3700, :D
    WUXGA,

I wonder if I can use two 30" monitor with the port replicator??

    Any comments, appreciated.

So Im looking at drives at New Egg and dont see 7200 drives with FFS.

ok wait, I see 2. One 160 and one 200. So where would I get a 250 or 320 like Dell offers?
    just trying to find cheaper.

    Another question:

I have to run specific software that is not compatible with 64 bit - so Im getting 32bit. This software is audio recording software. It is not compatible with RAID and also you cant record to your system drive (with the OS) and the drive has to be fast.
So the 2nd drive has to be a 7200 drive.
My question is, would it be bad to get a 5400 drive for the main drive?

Ok, I have to back up a bit.

Apparently its more complicated for me if I can even use the things I want to use with this computer. I need to find out this:

in order to decide compatibility, I went to teh website and found this:

"We are going to collect the following information:
    Form Factor
    Processor
    RAM
    Operating System and Service Pack
    Motherboard Chipset
    FireWire Controller
    Graphics Controller

So my question is what would be the motherboard chipset and the firewire controller for this laptop?

What kills me is this software is THE most used software in the post production and audio recording industry - yet no mention of any testing with Dell on THIS software. Its software that started on Macs and now is supported heavily on PCS, but theres a LOT of details with laptops that make them not compatible. In fact, older Dell Precision workstations were NOT compatible with this software.

Any answers to teh questions are certainly appreciated!!
