In case anybody needs to know, m6400s at the Dell Outlet store have a 15% coupon running. Not sure for how long but they just had 20% off when I bought this Covet two months ago. I think we're going to be seeing lots of coupons this year. Unfortunately there are only 8 m6400s listed but that can change in the course of a few hours.

Now is definitely a good time to buy. Mobile Core i7's got pushed back so the M6400 will remain relevant for a bit.

I got mine from the outlet store. Waiting a few months for a scratch & dent is well worth the discount.

I have a few questions for people who ordered the M6400 new from Dell (I got mine through Dell exchange):
    1. Did the M6400 come with a restore partition?
    2. I nuked the diagnostic partition. I now want to put it back. How do I do that?
    3. Did the M6400 come with its own set of wallpapers?
Thank you much in advance for any help.

No, mine came with no recovery partition but it came with XP installed and maybe it's different with Vista. But it did come with disks for both XP and Vista Business as well as the disk of drivers and utilities that your diagnostics programs reside on. And other than the standard Sample Pictures that come with XP, no wallpapers either. Having installed Vista on a second drive I see it has a different, and admittedly better group of Sample photos but that's as close to 'wallpapers' as I know about. If you have Vista why don't you try right clicking the desktop and click 'personalize'. There's your wallpapers. I've also never had a problem getting Dell to send me a new OS disk or driver and utilities disks either.

Thank you for the reply. I was told there was no recovery partition and you confirmed it. My also came with OS and drivers CDs as well. But I goofed and deleted the diagnostic partition and now want to put it back but with latest version from Dell's website. And I asked about the wallpaper because I didn't know if Dell made some special model specific for this laptop.
Again, thank you for your reply.

    just installed the new bios........
something strange going on with temperature readings.

GPU-Z is reading 60c for the graphics card, Everest is reading 51c

Never had that with the A03 bios?

Anyone know why the nVidia Powermizer does not work on the M6400 with Vista?

What best case battery times are XP users getting with Powermizer enabled?
