But the south bridge are different, for desktop ICH10D, and for M6400 ICH9M-E, which bring up one question, Is the RAID system base on hardware or software??

And on this note, I was thinking about something. I got some bad clusters on the drive of my trusty VY11 tablet PC recently, and this raises a question. How do you do disk maintenance (scanning and defrag, etc.) on a RAID array?

I have an old Quantum Snap Server at home running RAID 1 for safety, but it has the disk checking functions running under the covers (just click a link in the web interface and get confirmed good status after it runs whatever it runs), so I have no idea what it's actually doing, and the OS on the box runs a Linux variant in any case - how do you do this stuff in Windows with a RAID controller in the background?

I feel the same way! Too much work and not enough play. Which brings me back to another fact: you're not going to purchase a Quadro at home for work and then purchase another computer with a Geforce for game-time, you want a card to handle both, which a high-end or even mid-range Quadro is perfect for.

Yes, the Advanced Port Replicator has two DisplayPorts that can drive DisplayPort 30" LCDs, or you can connect two of the Dell DP to Dual Link DVI adapters and drive two DL DVI 30" LCDs.

(The DVI ports on the Port Reps are Single Link which can't drive a 30" LCD at max resolution, hence the need for the DP to DL DVI adapters.)

    Regards,
    David

Sequoia225, what audio app is it?

For A/V, the Precision systems are generally submitted for certification with Avid Mojo and Digidesign's 1394 audio interface. I believe the Avid testing was completed and the Digi test should be done soon.

    Regards,
    David (from Dell)

I'm guessing they use Samsung drives, and Samsung also offers a hi-performance drive option. One of the sales guys described the "mobility" SSDs to me as a bit slower than a regular 5400 RPM HDD, and the hi-performance drive as substantially faster than the 7200 RPM drives. (I didn't ask who their supplier was, though if you look on the SSD page for machines where they use the ordering wizard, there is a picture of a Samsung drive with the Samsung name right on it.)

This came up during a conversation a few days ago when they were listing as options on the ordering page both 128GB mobility SSDs (but for some reason only listing them as an option for drive 1, not drive 2), and the 64GB hi-performance SSDs.

The app is Pro Tools. The hardware would be the 002 or 003 interfaces for the LE (cheaper) version of the software/hardware. Id run the full deal but they claim that Pro Tools HD isnt even compatible with Vista yet - Just the LE version is compatible - but then on top of that, Digi has ALL sorts of little details that make a PC compatible or not and laptops seem like more of an issue - as I said, they have only approved 2 laptops for compatiblility (old HP workstations) and specifically said that a couple older Dell Precision workstations are NOT compatible due to some fire wire issue.

I had seen that Dell was testing with major industry software but didnt know how to find out if Pro Tools was one of those. If you know anything about this it would be emensly helpful cause part of why I am buying this is to run Pro Tools LE with one of the LE audio interfaces (002 or 003 or one of the cheaper ones).

I know Pro Tools is mainly a mac based thing at least in the industry here in Los Angeles, but frankly, I cant believe that its not just more universally compatible with PCs at this point.

Anyway, anything you can tell me about this would be helpful!!!!

    Thanks,
    Sequoia
