UPDATE: Just heard from Customer Service again. Pushed back to December 5th again. No reason given. Simply ridiculous.

Well when I ordered on 10/27, it said delivery date of Dec 9th all along, it has never changed/been pushed back from that date, which was atrocious to begin with. Other guys here have had earlier ETAs that have been pushed back & are now a lot closer to my original & unchanged early December date, so same difference really /shrug

I never used a coupon either.

    Thanks.

It's probably a sign that I should focus on launching my current project before throwing away a day configuring and setting up a new laptop ;)

Many things. I was notified my Covet would not ship on the same day I was notified that it would.

The laptop runs games better than 3D applications.

    Vista sucks!
On that note. How do I make the app always run as an admin?
I set the properties for 3ds Max. When I open it up it does not load as admin, unless I tell it too. When it does load not as admin, it wants me to register (Autodesk not MS). So when I network render, the program want run as admin and therefore not run. Any clues. This is my first Vista machine. I am well versed with XP.

I don't see how his laptop was certified with apps it cannot run well.

    Many BSD's too.

Well, these delays aren't too surprising to me, although they are completely fustrating. Evey single machine I've bought from Dell that is a newly released system has taken absolutely ages to ship. A case in point, my M1730. It took about 7 weeks from ordering to actual delivery. I am convinced the delay was because 1) it was a new system just released and 2) I got a huge reduction in price, around £850 on a £2850 system.

I figured out the admin prob. Turned UAC off.
Vista is great in games though.

I wonder how everyone's reinstall of the system on the new HD's are going.

Mine was quite problematic. It differs per computer for whatever components they have. The last update for Vista which was a language dictionary something or other, would make the Covet bluescreen everytime. Installing DCP before the WiFi card can make it not updatable. Using the tools to check the HD upon startup will render a drive with a problem in RAID 0.

This computer does rock in any case!

    Well . . .
I have a Dual Xeon 3.6Ghz HT enabled, with a 10,000 rpm UtraSCSI320 HD, 6GB mem running WinXP Pro x64, and 3ds Max 2009 Design. It's an Intellistation Z Pro.
I have this Covet with 8GB mem, Quad, RAID O, 2 320 GB HD 7,200 rpm.

The Dual Xeon rendered a file in 6 min 22 secs.
The Covet rendered the same scene in 5 min 49 secs.

    rendered with finalRender.

    Amazing!!!!

    Hey guys, enjoying your laptop?
We need a customer rating experience because there have been ups and downs with getting or using the m6400.

One thing am really impressed by though is the way Dell's customer support for the precision laptops has handle situations. Not just mine but all the cases i have read.

I still have a noisy hard drive and some minor complains so i called Dell today since I was given a case number and the rep offered a swap(new system build) which i wouldnt mind but i cannot go ahead with the offer until january. This is because i need the laptop for xmas as i will be travelling to africa on december to spend the holiday & shoot a short film project. The estimated time for the swap to happen is about 4-5weeks therefore the best choice was to have it done once i get back.

Maybe I will get the RGB LED screen this time assuming they have enough in stock and the price drops a bit because my finances are singing a different song this time of the year and it aint a xmas carol.

For everyone who has the RGB LED screen, is it really worth it. Honestly?

I stopped wondering about how they determine their delivery dates. My order was first placed at october 8th, the delivery date was set to November 26th. Last week, i've got delayed until january 19th. I called them, asked them to determine what parts were causing the delivery, cancel the order and then place a new order without the delaying parts.

Yesterday they called me back and told me they canceld the order, I reorderd the same configuration (but I asked a LED display for the same price since prices allready dropped in the past 2 months) and now they are planning to deliver december 5th.

    Where's the logic...
Anyway, I hope everbody who is waiting gets it very soon...
