I haven't used the factory drive very much. Maybe I should start just to make sure it's good. I got no errors in my imaging process though...

I would be curious if you also get errors on tcpip.sys. i.e. are you getting errors on tcpip.sys AND other files, or other files and NOT tcpip.sys...

I've tried vsync enabled and disabled, doesn't make a diff in Maya for me. I'm growing a little pile of tweaks I've done that haven't worked... I think once I find a solution it will be time to reimage from scratch and reconfigure the machine ONLY doing the fix. (It's getting into the realm of uninstalling windows updates, disabling UAC, all kinds of mess.)

Dell's status will change to shipped when it is prepped and waiting for the daily FedEx / UPS pickup. (Which will probably happen on a weekday.) Basically Dell has "shipped" it to FedEx. It's that way so that internally Dell knows that the laptop is in its box, in a pile, all set to be picked up by the carrier. (So if, say, you had next day, you'd probably get it Tuesday.)

By the way I noticed when mine was shipping, that even though I ordered Next Day, the FedEx site showed me nothing but "Ground Indirect". I thought someone had fubarred the shipping. But it arrived the next day! The FedEx site just isn't very clear sometimes.

What is up with Dell? Anyone else purchase a Covet with a coupon now having issues?

I contacted them about 10 days ago - since my machine was In Production for 10 days with no status update.

Got an email -- I was told 2 parts were on back order - CPU (QX9300) and Video Card FX3700 - with no ETA.

Two days later - I get a call - that they have the parts -- but now they don't have any batteries - Unknown ETA

Then I get an email 11/20 - they have the batteries -- and that the machine is in production.

Today I get a call - telling me that it will be moving into production -- and it will take 4 to 5 business days to build -- before it is ready to be shipped. After that -- got to figure a week or so from Malaysia to US -- since they ship full planes to TN for boxing and then to Fed Ex for actual delivery.

I asked them what happened between the 1st time they told me it was in production (11/20) and this afternoon - when they called and told me it would be going into production? No answer.

Asked if this was really the case -- given the issue with not getting a straight story with the parts -- was told -- When you ordered it you were told there was a back order on the parts --NOT TRUE - no indication at all about that.

R they deliberately dell aying because I used a coupon and got 2 grand off? They asked again for the 3rd time - was I going to cancel the order. Guess they really want me to -- TOLD them not going to happen.

Anyone else having issues with delays? 1/2 truths?

Yes, I got all those same responses, except the qx9300 because I didn't order that. And I did use a 25% off coupon too. I wouldn't have received any of those communications had I not initiated the contact myself either.

I got in touch with them originally because I wanted to ensure that it was not delivered on the one day I won't be in my office to receive it (this Friday). That's when I found out about the longer delays due to backorders. When it was delayed longer than originally quoted, I asked for a refund or upgrade to compensate. Surprise, they found the parts!

So now it is finishing production and schedule to be delivered on (drum roll) this Friday... when I won't be in the office.

But, at least it's almost here.

    Thanks.
    Any specs?
Wonder if Dell will offer it before retail does.

The Federal Trade Commission regulates and enforces the rules for mail and telephone orders, which include fair time of delivery, postings of warnings/materials for the product etc...etc etc. included in the law is how a company handles orders known as the "30-day Rule. In short the rule says if i.e. Dell cannot ship your order within 30 days they have to let you know why it is delayed, and when it can be shipped and the option to refund your money/cancel your order. So yes at first i thought that they were pushing to cancel my order but it is actually a law.

    Here's a link:

Looks like that is the 500GB 7200rpm drive I've been looking for!

I'm -SO- getting two of those and RAIDing them up.

    Planned config:

    Drive 1-1: 120GB (Windows Vista X64)
    Drive 2-1: 20GB (Kubuntu Linux X64)
Drive 2-2: 100GB (Extra space. XP?)

    Drives 1-2 and 2-3: RAID-0 2x380GB = 760GB using Intel Matrix RAID!

The law also states that they must have reason to believe the advertised product will ship on the date they gave. I would say, if there are people who ordered after you and received before you, you should wave that clause in their face.
