My hinges are good and my battery doesn't wobble.. My Vostro worked great up until a couple days ago.. Someone suggested to me to reload Widows again from the disk since it does show that Windows logo and it looks like Windows is loading and then it just goes to a blank screen and the cursor shows and it can be moved around.. Cntl-Alt-Del window doesn't show up and doesn't shut windows down if it used another time..

I have a Vostro 1500, which I bought 11 months ago. About 4 months ago the screen became loose and wobbled about 10 degrees when computer was moved or if I was on the train and it went over bumps. I tightened the screws as advised but this did not have any real effect. Dell engineer came and replaced the back cover with new hinges, (as they though hinges may be broken/at fault but they were fine,) but some wobble was still noticable so he ordered a new base. He came the next day and took the screen out complete with all the screen casing out of the old base, and put it into the new base, but it still wobbled in the new base, so just put it back in the old base as it wouldn't have cured the problem. The problem was not fixed.

When he put the new back cover on, he had to take the plastic around the front of the screen off. After he put it together I noticed that the screen is no longer flush with the plastic surround and it annoys me! So now I have wobbling screen and plastic that is not flush with screen, also it creaks sometimes now.

Thought I'd put up with it but wobble has not worse over the past 2 months or so. I'm going to request a replacement notebook or that they extend my warranty for FREE for 1 year just in case the problem gets worse. I will ask to keep the exisiting HDD so I can put it into the new notebook. I now have only about 2 weeks of warranty remaining. How likely is it that they will give me a replacement notebook or extend my warranty ??

i have a Vostro 1500 with XP and the Nvidia 8400 GS. Lately, after boot up, my icons have moved, or the resolution has changed, or it asks me to set my resolution higher.
I thought I read somewhere that the Nvidia 8400 card is a problem, has anyone had this problem or have any suggestions on what to do?

    thanks

That's a software issue, not a hardware issue with the laptop. Try using a different driver on it.

My Nvidia 8400M GS recently died die to the infamous bug in Nvidia chips, so I called Dell and they offered to replace the motherboard right away! No discussion no argument no convincing required!!

I sent them the lappy last week on thursday and got it back today. They replaced the motherboard and also the keyboard(dunno why!!) . Its working great now. Will keep an eye on the temperatures though to see if the old problem recurs!

    Hello,

I bought Dell Vostro 1400, 1 year ago, now I am started having dead pixels on the whole screen. All of a sudden, in the middle of working, I am having dead pixels and suddenly whole screen becomes white and dead.:(

Some times the screen vibrates too, without any reason and I have to adjust it by pushing in & out.

In the background, all the prgrams are working very well but only screen becomes white and dead.

I would appreciate if some will give me suggestion for fixing this problem or some work around.

I have a vostro 1400 running windows 7 64bit. Under device manager it would show "Base System Device" within Other Devices. I spent lots of time reading and installing drivers and nothing worked until I found a driver in the following link that did the trick:

    http://forums13.itrc.hp.com/service...47627+1267779230643+28353475&threadId=1391667

click on the link within that page as follows:

    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45001-45500/sp45112.exe

    that's the driver (sp45112.exe)
or just copy and paste the link in your browser

this will solve the issue with the "Base System Device", pci bus 3 for your dell vostro 1400 on windows 7 64Bit

    Cheers!!!:D

I purchased a Dell Vostro 1400. Under warranty, his motherboard was replaced due to the video card. 2 months out of warranty, it happened again. It's a know issue that the Nvidia card is integrated into the motherboard. I argued with Dell saying that a computer should last longer than 2 years. Also since this has happened once already, they never fixed the problem.

After calling the department that escalates issues, they agreed to send me the motherboard but I would have to have it installed. I paid $125 to do that. I thought it would last at least another year. The motherboard was replaced in October and now March 11th, it happens again. I just want to warn anyone not to purchase this computer and if you do have one, to complain to Dell.

If anyone has gotten Dell to do something, please let me know.
