Do any of the choices for displays on a Vostro 1500 produce glare? Is Truelife the cause of it?

Okay, my laptop has been on for about 24 hours straight now. I've noticed more quirks, but still no real problems.

-In standby, there is a high frequency noise.
-I went to change the settings in power management and had the monitor power off in 15 minutes regardless if it was plugged into the wall. After 15 min. (and even 20), the monitor did not power off. A restart fixed this.
-The rubber pieces under the laptop are very slightly uneven, making the laptop teeter tot a bit on a hard table. It bothers me.

I got my laptop yesterday, so I'll list some things I've noticed about it.

    1) I do hear headphone interference that many 1520 owners have complained about. It only when there is no sound coming out. I've also noticed that this doesn't happen when the CD drive is spinning, even when there's no sound coming out.

    2) On 32-bit color, the screen flickers, like CRT monitors do when they're at a low refresh rate. It's not really bad though. It doesn't flicker on 16-bit color (even though the colors look really bad), and I can't find an option for 24-bit color in the nVidia control panel.

I'm going to see if I can fix these problems, but I don't have a lot of time right now.

I've heard about it before. Would it put way too much stress on it?

Well, I talked to Dell, and they are sending me a new battery. We will see if this fixes the problem...

If your battery is wobbling, then no a new battery probably won't help it. Mine is slightly loose, but only noticeable when pushing up on the battery. Hardly worth calling in about, for my system at least.

My battery also moved a little bit. There is a small amount of play between the battery and the space where it seats. That's not a big deal I guess.

I posted this in another thread. To make the battery nice and solid, stack 3 strips of electrical tapes on the tracks on the laptop itself, where the battery slides into.

For some strange reason Dell thinks its new, stripped down version of touchpad driver for the Alps touchpad is better - it's missing almost all of the customization options. Get the Alps touchpad driver from the Latitude D420. With that you get back all of the customizations, and the back/forward gesture! You should uninstall the "old" version first before installing the Latitude version.
