I ran rmclock and check the OS idle box and that stopped the noise. I don't see how you can ship 1000s of notebooks with that big of a problem. I knew I should of bought another HP.

50 hours of straight running now. No issues, no freeze ups, no slugging. I'm confident I'm keeping my Vostro.

Wow, that battery is sure good!!!
    :)

Jokes aside, can you tell us something about the temperatures?
The two cores, the hard disk and - by feeling the top and bottom of the laptop.

    Thanks.

I've noticed this as well. I think it's that the right foot closest to you when you face the screen that's too short. The temporary fix is to just pull the laptop forward so the foot hangs about halfway off the table. Stops the totter without making it perilous at all.

If every laptop has this problem, that's just plain disgusting. That's something I would have expected 20 years ago, lol...

Just received my vostro 1400 and so far i have no problems with it, the different size rubber shoe thing is non existent on my comp. when i have it set on my coffee table i can't get it to teeter or budge at all. Another thing i checked for was the loose battery problem, i shook the battery as hard as i dared (didn't want to break anything) and it doesn't wobbel at all. I don't know if i just got lucky or if dell has started to fix the problems that everyone has been complaining about but over all i'm very pleased. oh yea and i also don't find the screen to be grainy at all.

My only problem is the keyboard lag that I fixed by disabling PCMservice.exe.
