First thing I did when I received my 1400 was do the A03 BIOS update. Both my headphone jacks work. But they do give hissing/slight buzzing sound

Contrary to belief, I think most of the humming, whistling and whining noises are from the notebook cooler fan.

where can I download the newest Vostro1500 bioses?
Dell only offers the A00 at the moment and I've already got that...

    EDIT
OK, I just found the A03 1520 Inspirion Bios and that´'s supposed to be exactly the same as the vostro1500 so I think I'll try that...
OK that didn't work either... Inspirion bios won't flash on a Vostro...

My LCD suddenly died, I called the Dell support and after 1 week they sent the techguy to fix it. They replaced the whole piece, so I got a new LCD with all the cables and stuff.

    Hi everybody,

I purchased a Vostro 1500 N series (with no OS) a month ago. My problem is with its display. There are visible dim vertical stripes in ca. 3 cm width on both edges from top to bottom. The more the brightness is reduced, the more the dimness becomes visible. It is rather irritating to my eyes and mind, as well.
    :)

I called the local Dell Service today and I was told that the replacement part should be ordered (I live in Hungary) which would probably take a week and then they replace it under my 3 year warranty plan.

Hopefully, the new one will be okay.

So, everyone thinking of buying a new notebook of any logo, be careful and check the display against any defect before paying the bill!

Does anyone have any info where I can download MediDirect reinstall Cd for Vostro 1500?

I'd already contacted Dell where I was redirected to a local phone number where I got an e-mail address but since then there is no reply to my e-mail. :-(

    Can anybody help?

Got a Vostro 1400 with Vista last month. Hated Vista and replaced it with XP. Screen (WXGA+ 1440x900) is absoluetly great. I think the grainy screen issue has been fixed, as I've seen a lot of 1400s and 1420s around campus, all with very nice screens. My only complaint is the really, really, really horrible Alps touchpad. Doesn't register movement half the time, and scroll only works randomly. I'm so getting a Mogo mouse.
