Recently bought a Dell Vostro 3400 I5 14" laptop. While the fan motor works almost constantly with the power plugged in I was surprised it did not go on when working with battery only. Does anyone know why?

anyone succeed in getting the hybrid graphics intel/nVidia working correctly on this /w winXP?

i can get them to install, but nVidia shows up with an exclamation mark, and intel appears to not work despite appearing operational at the device manager.

elsewhere on this board there's a long thread about troubles with sony hybrid video laps...

The fan problem has NOT been fixed. Please refer to the following thread:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/del...dell-vostro-3x00-fan-speed-noise-control.html

There seems to be three possible culprit candidates:
    (1) Defective hard disk sensor;
    (2) On-die graphics chip sharing a heat sink with the CPU; and
    (3) Overly conservative BIOS fan algorithm.

    Hi Friends,

I have Dell vostro 3400 which had win 7. Due to some requirement, I had to format the laptop and install windows xp. Now I am facing problem with installing drivers for XP 32bit OS.

I have managed most of the drivers, but still unable to get the network controller driver. Because of this I am not able to connect to wireless network.

    Please help me.

    Thanks....

i spent a few days trying to get xp to run on my 3400, but in the end i had to give up as i couldn't find the drivers for the nvidia/intel hybrid video - or find a way of disabling the intel. this should be a bios option that michael has taken away from us.

did you have better luck, or your 3400 doesn't have the hybrid?

anyway, assuming your wifi is the same as mine, you can get it at:

anybody found a service manual for this?

if - would you be able to post a link to it here?

i think my fan is on the way out - & changing it locally would probably be less of a pain than dealing with the repair dept.

    thanks in advance.
