I just got a copy of Windows 7 Professional (32 and 64 bit versions) and was going to install it on my E6400, but this thread has me worried. From what I gather...
    there are problems with bluetooth
    backlit keyboard doesn't work
there are problems with ambient sensor

...can anyone confirm? Any other problems that I should be aware of?

Despite the various driver and hardware issues, I'm finding Windwos 7 works "faster" than Windows XP. I'm running 64bit.

Backlit keyboard works under Win7 perfectly.. it's hardware controlled.
I can't reproduce the ambient light sensor problem on my system.. I don't know if it's driver related or not. I can't comment the rest.

Everything works perfectly, a lot faster than Vista. (I'm running 7 x64)

The only issue I encountered was a BSOD when going into 'energy saving mode' while playing a video with VLC. Strange, but that can be easily worked around.

    - Backlite works fine
    - Ambient light sensor have problems (works only if I disable/enable it - then brightness is adjusted)
    - Bluetooth works fine (Win7 driver from dell.com)

backlit keyboard works fine, as GB notes, i don't have any issues with the ambient sensor, but I don't bother with it much anyway, i normally am on almost the lowest darkness unless it is very bright outside. as for bluetooth, dont use the dell drivers, find newer ones online (ill post a link later if i remember to), and it is totally fine. http://rs724.rapidshare.com/files/238422546/BTW_6.2.0.9200.rar is for 9200, but i have 6.2.0.8900 installed, although that link may actually install the 8900 ones, im not sure -- either way they work fine.

UPDATE :: I actually do have problems with the ambient sensor. I can only control my brightness when it is enabled, which is annoying.
