I think I said before that I wasn't having any problems with the ambient light sensor in win7. that is flatly untrue. if i disable it, I cannot even change my brightness.

i can also confirm that if i uninstall DCP, it works properly. has anyone been able to get this working properly with the most recent version of DCP?

    hi,
i've recently purchased a latitude 6400. i have installed win7 64 bit(ultimate) but got no idea about the drivers that i sould install. i visited the dell website and noticed that for win7 64 bit there are not complete drivers.

someone please tell me which all drivers should i install from the website under win7 and from vista 64 bit.

also please do tell me for nvidia quadro 160m which driver should i install for gaming purpose. i herd that the driver which dell gives is more for application based work.

    thanks,
    tc cr

Windows 7 already has the basic drivers you need. If Dell doesn't publish them, it's because the drivers are still in alpha/beta stages, therefor come in Win7 versions pre-released (Beta, RC1, RTM. But not October 22nd release).

Any mobile Geforce drivers. Any of them... Nvidia has a 1 driver for all GPU system.

    Hi,

thanks a lot for the support. But when i see the list of drivers to be installed there seems some imp. drivers to be missin. One of my friend has told me to go for drivers in the vista 64bit to meet the missin ones in the win7 64bit list. for eg. Notebook System Software (NSS), PCMCIA/Smartcard controller, DCP, etc.

pls tell me should i follow suit??

If you have any problems with a device where it's Win7 drivers doesn't exists, then download the Vista 64-bit drivers. I think this will be much more simple.

do NOT install dell system software on win7. those are OS specific in a way drivers are not.
DCP is available for win7. you shouldnt need additional drivers for pcmcia stuff/smartcard.

I had Windows 7 Professional x64 installed for a while on my E6400 but had stability issues (not sure if it's Win7 Pro or not yet).

What would happen is, at times the PC would turn on fine, but sometimes it would take extremely long to Boot past the Dell A15 Bios. Eventually I'd make it into Windows 7 (after 2 minutes or more). If I restart the computer, sometimes the screen wouldn't turn on but instead a Blue flashing A would show up next to the Caps Lock symbol. I reverted back to Windows Vista 32-bit (Dell pre-installed) and so far I haven't noticed the problem. I did a full system diagnostics scan and it returned back with no errors.

Anyone having issues with the final release version of Windows 7; I guess this mainly goes out to Technet and MSDNAA people--none of you RC users.

I've been using Windows 7 Pro RTM from MSDNAA for a few weeks now on my E6400.

Haven't installed any drivers from the Dell site or the DCP software and it's working fine, only installed drivers from the Nvidia site.

So far everything's working ok but this one time I left the laptop on for about 12+ hours, the aero effects in Win7 started flickering a bit. I opened up GPU-Z and it said it couldn't detect a graphics adapter. Restarted and everything's ok again and it hasn't happened since.

Well we all must remember that so far there are no (ok now it's starting to appear slowly) official drivers for Win7. And usually the first release of the drivers of the OS isn't perfect.

Maybe I made the mistake of using the Windows 7 drivers provided by Dell and then using the Windows Vista drivers they had for all the other ones that weren't available under 7....

My girlfriend has an hp laptop that is also suffering with video problems under Win7 so we're not the only ones :)
