I've been running the official Win 7 Enterprise 64bit for a week now.
Only needed the Touchpad stuff from Vista 64bit, otherwise it was too slow even at max speed.

The only problem that remains - when playing flash videos in Firefox for 5 minutes or more (haven't tried IE) the vent goes loud. That probably isn't OS related but still is disturbing. I took out the vent itself to see if there is any dust between the vent and the grill - there were some traces of it, which I removed, but nothing changed.

Under Win XP Pro 32bit I had problems with Estonian national ID card (SmartCard format), sometimes the computer could not communicate with the card reader - no problems under Win 7, works every time.

Flash uses the CPU to draw. And your CPU is not designed to draw. In result your CPU requires A LOT more power to draw each frame of your video playing in Flash, which in result heats your CPU and northbrdige like your system is under heavy load... as well, it is. This affects all laptops, and desktops.

You would be pleased to know that the coming up version of Flash (10.1), will now use the GPU to render the video, which will/should solve the issue.

Does anyone know of a way to write 0's to a hard disk with the Latitude E6400? I can do this on a desktop and older Dell laptops but noticed I can't get the CD to load in my E6400 nor Studio 17 -- it's as if Dell blocked out the ability to use WD Utility CD or any other for that matter except third party software.

    Anyone else notice this?

    try DBAN, www.dban.org

if it doesn't see the drive, set it to ATA mode in the bios, and retry.

i tried installing this one but couldnt find the way. if i uninstall my quadro drivers from device manager (the nvidia panel wont go even on uninstalling from control panel) and on clicking on geforce driver it then shows "couldnt find relevant drivers from your hardware" and it exits.

now i've restored my win to previous point where everything was workin fine with nvidia quadro driver installed.

please suggest me steps that i should follow to install this geforce driver.

me new to all this, pls help me.

    thanks

Nonono... that is not how you uninstall a driver. I mean, yes this is how you do it, but in the case of Nvidia you have drivers + software working together. Windows device manager system, only removes the drivers.

This is how you do it:
    - Open "Programs & Features" (the old name in earlier Windows was "Add/Remove programs"), from the Control Panel.
    - Find "Nvidia Drivers" item, and double on it to uninstall it.
    - Follow the wizard.
    - Once done, restart your computer

Nvidia drivers has been successfully uninstalled.
Now download (if you have not already) any Mobile Geforce driver, fitting your operating system. or the proper version (32-bit or 64-bit)
    Windows 7 64-bit: http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_winvista_win7_x64_186.81_whql.html

    Windows 7 32-bit: http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_winvista_win7_186.81_whql.html

Once downloaded, double click to install it. Follow the wizard installation, restart your computer when asked (if asked), and there you go! Nvidia driver installed.

weird issue i've noticed using windows 7...my pointing works fine with everything except double clicking. i cant tap it twice and have it work for the life of me...is there a setting i'm missing or something? i installed the Vista 64 drivers because none were available for touchpads for Windows 7.

    Single click works fine...lol.

Edit: Actually, on some things it does work. like when i double tap the title bar on firefox it resizes, or if i double click a filename it allows me to edit it.
