So can anyone who has received their 1320 speak to the noisy fan issue? Also, reading the posts about the 1320 the consensus seems to be that the 2.4 processor is the way to go. Is it really worth the extra price over the 2.1? Might not the 2.4 processor be responsible for the quick heating over active fan issue?

I'm looking to buy the 1320 in the next few days and would greatly appreciate any feedback! THANKS!!!!

What are you doing with the laptop - that's probably the biggest determinate in which processor you should get.

I'm getting the 1320 for grad school. I don't plan on doing any gaming or anything like that, so 2.4 is probably not very necessary for me, right? Also, is there anything to my intuition about a faster processor generating more heat? I'm really worried that the 1310 fan noise problem hasn't been fixed as I'm easily annoyed by annoying sounds. Anyone have any insights on that?

(sorry for all the questions - my first laptop buying experience :wideeyed: Although, since I'm getting it from dell I can always send it back for free w/i 30 days)

Also, does anyone have any insights on whether the dell 1510 a/g/n wireless card is worth an extra $50 over the stock 1397 b/g (assuming that I can't/won't install a better mini card myself)?

I can't wait until the reviews for the vostro 1320 comes out. It looks like a great notebook from what I've seen so far. I'm thinking of picking up a cheap out at the outlet later this year to use as my traveling notebook (I don't think I can handle the small keyboards on netbooks).

Well, I ordered my 1320 (with the specs listed in my orginal post). I am impressed with the specs for the price. I'm expected to get it the first week of May; I'll let you all know my impressions.

Nobody has teh 1320 in hand yet, so probably can't comment on the noise. Mine will probably comes early May so will report back. faster processor usually generating more heat, but you need to look at the specific CPU since some new generation CPU run cooler than old generation at the same MHZ.

For the upgrade question, I asked some question in the following thread and some of the other members'answer might help, I am guessing universities mostly use wireless G so wireless N maybe not necessary. The only upgrade I really wish i have done is the web cam since I can't add it later. But in the end I am unable to do any upgrade since dell told me the laptop is already in production.

What about the LCD vs. matte issue? What display did those who already ordered the 1320 get? Anyone w/ any insights or experience with deciding b/w matte and LCD TrueLife screens?

As far as the processor goes, in terms of speed, I doubt you'll notice the difference between the two. I think the 2.4 p8600 actually generates less heat under load, but I don't really know how much of a difference in terms of heat. Given how much the upgrade costs, it might just be better to stick with the T6570.

The truelife screen is a glossy screen; it improves color contrast and in general makes pictures look a fair amount better, but its also extremely reflective. On a black screen with a bit of light behind you, you can clearly see your reflection.

Matte is just the usual non-glossy coating. If you're deciding between the two, you might want to visit your local bestbuy and see for yourself if you like the glossy screens.

i ordered mine yesterday, and it's supposed to ship may 12th, i got the following specs:

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo P8600 (2.4GHz, 3MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
250GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive with Free Fall Sensor
    3GB DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz, 2 DIMM
    Webcam
Matte Screen (can't stand reflections, don't know why glossy screens are so popular...)
    9 Cell Battery
    Dell Wireless™ 1510 802.11a/g/n Draft Mini Card

that rounded to 1012 with tax, 899 without, i was pretty pissed off cuz they raised hte price just before i bought it by 60 dollars, but i still think it's worth it especially for a student. ALL ARE IN CANADIAN DOLLARS
