Hi guys, I just got my Dell Latitude Z and it is an amazingly thin laptop!

I installed Windows 7 64 bit and then I installed all the drivers. Fresh reformat. Only issue is that some of the drivers don't work with 64 bit since they seem to only offer 32bit drivers.

I can't get the Edge Touch to work since they only have 32 bit drivers.

So far, amazing laptop though. I can't believe they made it so incredibly thin! It's pretty astonishing.

Anyone else care to share random thoughts, tips, tricks, advice, or input?

    Thanks

I'm patiently waiting for mine to show up. It was suppose to be here yesterday but Fed Ex put it on the wrong truck so it didn't deliver, I have to wait until Tuesday now! I was looking forward to playing with it over the 3 day weekend. I got one out of the outlet. I got a pretty good deal. I paid 609.44 w/tax for the 2209.00 build unit. I think somebody screwed up. They had about 25 or so all priced at 699.00 one day regardless of the build configuration. Plus there was a 15 % off coupon available!

Glad to see you started a new Z600 thread. The current one is way to long now, it's hard to find anything in there. And I think the units have changed a lot since they first came out.

Do you guys think this would this be a good laptop for law school? Or is the size too much? I thought the thinness and lightness of it would make it manageable for carrying back and forth every day and the larger screen size would allow me to use split screens more easily. I'm deciding between this and the e4300.

Is there anywhere that might carry the Z so I could try it out?

Waltz, I assume you will get it on Monday or Tuesday? I think Fedex ground does not deliver on Mondays. Please update us with your thoughts. I started this thread since it's actually an owner's lounge. The other thread was an intial release thread if I am not mistaken.

This is definitely a good laptop for law school. It has enough performance to run MS office, watch movies, browse internet, and the average things. It is very, very, manageable carrying in your backpack. It is VERY light. It is 4.5 lbs, so you wouldn't really notice it in your backpack.

If I were you, order one, try it out, and if it doesn't suit your needs you have 21 days to return it. I don't know of any place that currently stocks one of these.

I haven't seen the Z but can comment (positively) on the E4300. A few points to consider:

    1. The E4300's smaller size will make it easier to use in cramped spaces such as lecture halls.

    2. The E4300 can manage up to about 6 hours from the 6 cell battery and has the option of a battery slice to fit on the bottom if you want it to run all day without looking for a power socket.

    3. The E4300 has a built-in optical drive, should you need to read / write CDs or DVDs.

    4. The E4300 has a connector for the Dell e-port, so you can connect a big DVI monitor, etc, when back at base.

I own both the Latitude Z and E4300

At first I didn't think I would like the Z's form factor i e to my way of thinking anything over 14 inches is just too big. However, now that I've had the Z a while, because of its slimness/weight ratio it doesn't bother me at all.

The Z is a very Luxurious Product,in fact is probably the nicest overall Laptop Dell has ever designed/manufactured. Considering that the outlet price for a Z is just a few dollars higher than a E4300 ... well obviously I'd go for the Z:D

Got the Z from Outlet yesterday. Installed W7 Professional on it, since it came with Vista Business. Overall, a very nice display and keyboard, and the weight is nice for this size. I have some questions for other owners:

    (1) Does it come with any DisplayPort adaptors? I thought the DP to VGA adaptor was standard equipment and therefore included.

    (2) On the drivers download page, there is a huge (>400MB) file for Latitide On. It is a tar file. Do you know what we are supposed to do with this file? There is a smaller (110MB) file that has the latest Latitude On updates, like Firefox, etc. that I installed already.

    (3) Is there a way to install a media player for Latitide On? I know that it uses a low-power ARM processor, but just wondering if there is a way to have it run any task besides the default 4.

    TIA.

Not sure if this is the right thread, but here it goes. I have a Z with the Samsung 128GB PB-22JS3 drive from Dell. Installed the latest Intel RST drivers. Surprisingly, TRIM is not supported, according to Sisoft Sandra, and some other posts from the Dell forums. Has anyone been able to get TRIM to work? Running Windows 7 x86.

    Firmware is VBM94D1Q
Model is PB-22JS3 FDE TM 128GB
