noble, keep trim on. It just helps keep the drive cleaner. I have no idea regarding the other issue with scanning. From commercials, it looks like you just hold the document up to the webcam.

aniym - This laptop is extremely portable. I love the 16" screen and have zero issues carrying it around. It is very quite in class, and very light. Personally, it feels like it weighs 4.5 pounds for the 8 cell. For me, I carry it around all of the time! I get 7 hours battery life with the 8 cell.

Any compatibility issues? I read a user review on Dell's website that complained they had trouble connecting the laptop to external devices when they were on the road. I assumed they were talking about projectors -- I take it it doesn't have a vga output?

it has display port, so a VGA adapter would be needed.

just bought a z600 from the outlet with SU9600, 4GB, 128GB SSD, 4-cell and external DVD. $1080 w/ tax. didn't know that the 3 yr warranty came standard. That, the backlit keyboard and the included external DVD is what got me to pull the trigger over the base HP ENVY 13, which is roughly the same price w/ the Student discount.

Well, that and the fact that I've used Dells for years, and have never had the problems that people seem to routinely have w/ HPs. I was also worried that the discrete GPU might cause problems w/ the Envy, and was disappointed to find that the base envy no longer has a 1600x900 screen.

Sorry, I don't check this thread often. TRIM is on native with windows 7. To make sure go to your command, and enter fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify

It should return =0. This means that it is on. However, I don't know for sure if your SSD supports TRIM. Either way you should update the firmware on your SSD.

Yes that spot is meant for your SIM card but is useless if you didn't purchase the feature at the time of sale.

Ordered my Z600 a couple days ago. Am sure I will have some questions for you all once I get my hands on it Saturday.

For those who do have one anything I should know right off the bat? Also, does anyone have any recommendations for laptop sleeve that this would fit in? If I decide to upgrade to the 8 cell battery in the future would that cause any fit issues?

How are all the owners liking theirs?

We do consulting that involves a mixture of work in our office and at client sites. We bought a couple of these and have been using them for about 3 months now. They are very cool machines but there is one thing we all agree about that is a big problem, which is the 16x9 screen. The loss of vertical screen real estate is inconvenient, but that isn't the real issue. Any time you attempt to use an external monitor or projector that doesn't support 16x9 (which is most), you are forced to use the next lowest common resolution. With a vertical of 900 that typically ends up being 1024x768, which is unacceptable in the business world. Since this is ostensibly a business class notebook, we are baffled by Dell's decision on that score and probably won't do this again unless they move the vertical resolution up to at least something like 1024. 1920x1080 would be good and would keep the 16:9 ratio if they think that is a must.

rmp, aside from the issue with external monitors, which I don't forsee myself using that often, how have you liked the machines? Has the performance been solid?
