All I can say is I don't get the two tone design on the inside... And the fact that expensive computer will start to look damn ugly with bezel scratches since there's STILL NO pads on the bezel.

Z supports only thin SSD, there is no ability to attach internally any other HD. And they would not fit anyway. I suggest you buy one and check the drives out, they are really amazing :) In addition to mechanical advantages, the thin SSD offer better read/write perf and battery savings.

    haha...nice try :D
Exactly what do you mean with a "thin" SSD....is that a 1.8"? And if so, which one is used? If you say they're sooo great, surely you wouldn't mind telling us so we can check it's actual performance, right?

It is possible that Dell is using the Samsung slim-type SSD to reduce weight. 2 of these drives would weight the same as a single 1.8" SSD with only a slight increase in size. Though, the R/W speeds have no relation with physical size. Imagine 512GB in a space just slightly thicker than a single 1.8" drive!

Personally, I really like the looks and screen size of the laptop. If I had $$$ to blow, I'd take this over the T400s or Envy 15. I can't wait to see NBR's review!

By thin SSD do you mean 7mm SSD? Because the x25-M does come in a 7mm variant.

Check the PDF in my previous post. Think he meant the Samsung slim at 3.6mm in height.

According to that pdf the slim variant is only 64gb. So 512gb at the size of a 1,8" isn't really possible is it? Would be 128gb in this case. And the slim sized disk is the only one that actually HAS a lower max speed.

No, the PDF is horribly organized, the columns don't match. The physical specifications are separated from the other specs. Check the first link for the part number of the slim 256GB model (scroll to the bottom).

I hate these single-thread-for-everything since it makes it impossible to search, so apologies if anyone's posted the same thing before.

I'm getting quotes on Z600's, but one thing they are unclear on is whether the storage controller supports RAID0 - if so I plan to order all of them with dual 256's. Does anyone have an answer? Thanks

Also, does anyone have an all-up weight / photos with the 8-cell? I have a feeling that the 4-cell will be kind of useless.
