Just like the Adamo, there won't be any real service manuals for the Z.

These aren't user-upgradeable systems (according to Dell, of course), unfortunately.

Honestly, how many Dell ultra-thin laptops are there?
Z, Adamo, Adamo XPS, all those Inspiron/Studio 1xz variants.

Dell wants to be the thin and light pioneer! Me wants more.
    (how about a SXPS1645z?)

I think you're right. There is a "service manual" posted for Adamo, but it doesn't go beyond inserting a SIM card.

My company just got a couple of these machines in...very impressive. The shortcut menu on the screen bezel is a really nice feature. Makes opening applications much quicker vs. having to minimize all your open windows and access the desktop. This way it's just a quick tap.

I thought this was a neat idea, but I've been creating my own toolbars with shortcuts to my favorite apps in the taskbar. I started this with Vista and continue it with Win 7.

All you have to do is create a folder - probably in your USER folder - add the shortcuts to it that you want in your toolbar, then right-click on the taskbar, select Toolbar and New, then select the folder with the shortcuts in it.

Can you give us a little mini-review of the Z? I've got one on order and awaiting delivery. Curious about two things - the keyboard and the LCD. How good are they?

How is this funcionality different from the standard taskbar in Win7? Where you just drag a shortcut on the taskbar. How can the Z have that in the screen bezel? bezel as in the part around the actual screen itself?

The right side of the screen bezel in the Z is touch sensitive, so you can launch applications and perform other functions by touching the bezel.

Dragging ONE shortcut is a lot different than having a popup menu (they call it a toolbar) with multiple shortcuts on it.

For example, I have one toolbar called Developer which has 20 or so icons on it that start up a database application with the project opened for that specific project. I have another one call Tools which has about 10 shortcuts for Word, Excel, Expressions Web, Adobe Photoshop, Powerpoint, etc. Each toolbar takes up very little room on the taskbar, so in my case, I have 10 toolbars that organize my shortcuts and make it easier for me to load specific apps.

Reminds me a little bit of the dock in OS X when you add an "application" folder to the right side of it.
