This is too bad. I'm pretty sure there is no current option for driving a 30" non-displayport display at the moment with this config. The apple mini-display port is smaller than the display ports on the e-port replicator. So the apple adapter won't work regardless of how it performs.

So that leaves us with nothing at the moment. Please someone post when a true display-port to DVI-D (dual link) converter becomes available!

I even looked for an apple mini-display port to display port converter hoping I could do that.

My problem is that I converted from a MBP to a a dell m4400 recently and already had a 30" apple cinema display. So now I can't use it until someone builds a converter.

There are display port to DVI-D (single link only) ports that support 1900X1200 but I think I'll wait till a good one is build. Does the person who reported dell was building one have any more info?

    Thanks.

I don't know if this would help:
    http://www.bizrate.com/audiovideocables_adapters/oid922690785.html

I was thinking of getting the SP2309W for mi M4400 & E-Port Plus
but from what I am reading if we don´t have the cables it won't support the native rsoultion (2048 x 1152) is that correct? the above cable wopul work?

    thank you

If you follow the link you find that it will "interface to either single or dual link" but supports only single link DVI. So you could do that but it wouldn't get you any closer resolution wise... Here is the quote from the electronics.com page:

" The UltraAV DisplayPort to DVI-D cable adapter enables the connection of your DisplayPort supported computer to a DVI supported television, monitor or projector. It works with either dual-link or single-link digital DVI connections supporting single-link"

There is no current option for the adapter. A CTO at Dell was nice enough to respond to me and stated that the technology exists for an active DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI converter but is not being produced due to a lack of population with Dual-Link monitors.

The Dell 30" DisplayPort monitor has a beautiful picture in Adobe RGB mode and I love all of the input options.

this is all very depressing. i have been very close to caving and buying the 3008WFP, but i really don't want to pay $2k for it. I've been waiting for a promotion or sale for the last 2 months, but the price has not waivered one bit.

As already mentioned you need an active device (powered) to establish dual-link dvi from DisplayPort. No, that will not work for dual-link, I have two of them sitting on my desk. It does work for single-link without any issues but you will only have 1280x800 resolution if using a dual-link monitor.

I'd also like to mention that I wrote a review on monoprice.com giving the product a 5 that they chose not to post. See below:
    ======================================================
"Item description should state that these devices are for Single-Link DVI only. Your max resolution using Single-Link DVI can be 1920x1200 if your monitor has that native resolution.

If you are trying to make a 30" Dual-Link DVI monitor work with DisplayPort your max resolution will be 1280x800.

You need an active (powered) device to convert DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI because the DisplayPort does not contain all of the video signals that Dual-Link DVI needs.

System tested was Dell Latitude E6400 > Dell 3007WFP-HC 2560x1600 30" LCD Monitor."

Thank you for your response. I have been dealing with dell for 1 month on this issue. Before I bought a computer, I asked them if the Latitude E6500 would work with my 3007WFP at full resolution. They said absolutely. I purchased it and it did not.

I then spoke to technical support and they promised me the precision m4400 with the e-port plus dock would work. I returned the E6500 and got an m4400. This also did not work. I spoke to technical support and they swore it was a driver issue and it would be resolved. They explained that the Nvidia drivers are "flaky" and stop working. This struck me as a load of BS at the time and in fact it was.

After one month of dealing with misinformation from Dell, I can tell everyone absolutely that the Dell Latitude E6500 and M4400 will NOT work to power a DVI-D 3007WFP at 2560x1600.

They claim that the displayport will work at 2560x1600. That very well maybe the case but I am so angry with Dell right now that I hope no one buys another Dell computer, even if they have a displayport adapter.

DisplayPort works for 2560x1600. The worst part of this whole situation of not having Dual-Link DVI on our laptops is that the chips inside of the latitude and precision are capable of Dual-Link DVI but Dell did not provide a proper interface between the dock and GPU.

2048x1152 should be fine with Single-Link DVI.
