Actually, the swap bay is the "primary" bay (shows up as SATA-0), and the internal is "secondary" (SATA-1). You can swap them if you want but make sure you have the BIOS set to boot the right drive.

    THX, tijo,

    A couple questions:

    1) Can I order supplementary frames for HDD's at Dell, or can I just find them on Ebay ?

    2) And the spacers ?

    THX

    Thanks, Aaron !

But imho it is still not logical.....

The SSD contains the OS, so it should be mor wise to put the SSD more "internal" and the DATA HDD in the swap bay.....

One more question: What is the difference between these two blue-ray stations: PANASONIC UJ-252 and PANASONIC UJ-262 ?

Is it difficult to install it by myself ? I mean does it need specific software installation or so ?

The UJ-262 is a newer model. Don't know the details on the difference. I have the UJ-252 and no complaints with it so far.

The drive is easy to self-install (I did it on my own machine). No software needed to use the drive, but you will need software to play Blu-ray movies if you want to do that. Make sure that your drive comes with a square bezel, or if you have a tray-loading drive in the machine already, you can take the bezel from that drive and use it. You will also need to use the connecting bracket off of the back of your current drive (just unscrew it and attach it to the new drive in the same spot).

When you say frames, do you mean the caddies? If that is what you mean, you'd have to contact Dell, but I don't see why not, they let you order heatsinks so why not caddies. They may not have them in stock though.

As for the spacers, every 7mm SSD I bought came with one so I never bothered to look. while less elegant, cardboard can serve as a temporary (or not so temporary) solution.

The UJ26x series has 6X speed in some Blu-Ray operations and support larger BDXL discs. I own the UJ260, UJ262, and UJ265. I don't have the UJ267 (yet).

    UJ260 Tray-load 12.7mm
    UJ262 Tray-load 9.5mm
    UJ265 Slot-load 12.7mm
    UJ267 Slot-load 9.5mm

The M6700 takes 9.5mm drives (UJ262 and UJ267) internally. Both are more expensive than their 12.7mm counterparts. Both the tray-load and slot-load bezels on the Dell installed DVD reader (or burner) will fit onto the respective 9.5mm Blu-Ray drive after removal (use a plastic spudger or finger nail to remove it).

The cheapest option is to grab an external enclosure and a 12.7mm drive otherwise eBay is the best place to find the UJ262 and UJ267 if a cleaner internal look is desired. Whether that internal installation is worth 2x the price of the 12.7mm drive is up to the buyer. All of these options are cheaper than Dell's Blu-Ray offerings.

There is no such issue. 8GB 1866Mhz SODIMMs weren't available when the M6700 debuted. I am running 32GB without any issue for months.

I have running with 4x8GB without any issues (more here). Have you tried updating your BIOS to A06?

Thank you guys, for all that good info !!!
Please excuse me my crappy English ( I live in Belgium, so I'm Flemish/Dutch speaking ;)

Just to be sure: this one would fit ?

For the moment, thereis a DVD slot loader in my laptop.
But I prefer to build in a tray loader Blue Ray.
Should I buy anything else, besides what the link tells ?

    New UJ252 UJ-252 UJ252A UJ-252A DELL SONY Blu-ray 9.5mm burner player drive BD-R | eBay

    EDIT - some thoughts....

    1) Does a tray have mor advantages than a slot or vice versa ?

    2) Is the performance of an EXTERNAL blue ray writer/reader as good as an internal ????

And if I might decide to buy an external, would any brand be fine ?

Ah, if this can help anyone - I have also 32 GB installed by Dell.
But I own my laptop just for 2 days now, so I cant' really say something wise about a heat issue.

What i DO have noticed, is that the laptop is extremely quit.

I discovered that my issues with the Bluetooth adapter and LCD brightness are related to the current setting of 'Legacy Boot' in the BIOS.

With Legacy Boot OFF, Bluetooth is listed as 'None' in the BIOS and Diagnostics shows the 'LCD Panel - Unable to modify brightness' error.
With Legacy Boot ON, Bluetooth is listed as 'Installed' in the BIOS and Diagnostics shows no errors when performing the Display Panel test.

With Legacy Boot OFF, the setting of Secure Boot has no impact on the issues.

The main advantage of a tray load burner is that it has an eject hole to manually open the tray (e.g. using a paperclip), so you can remove the disc in case the tray doesn't open when you press the open/eject button. A slot load burner doesn't have an eject hole, because there's no tray to eject and ejecting a disc using an eject hole is mechanically impossible.

Whether you should buy a tray load or a slot load burner depends on your personal preference. I myself prefer the slot load type, because it has a more luxurious and sturdy feeling to it.

Yes. USB 2.0 (and 3.0 even more so) is more than fast enough to transfer data to/from an external blu-ray burner. The drive that is inside the external casing is usually identical to its internal counterpart.

I bet your RAM is 1600 Mhz and not 1866 MHz. AFAIK, Dell only allows 32GB of 1600 Mhz RAM or 16GB of 1866 MHz RAM to be configured with the M6700.

BTW, did your Covet come with Windows 8 pre-installed from the factory?

Can anyone who got an M6700 with Windows 7 Pro SP1 installed from the factory tell me what the part numbers are for the OS recovery DVD and the drivers/applications DVD(s)?

I bought a recovery DVD on eBay that has the following part numbers:
    - on the DVD: P/N D0V2K
    - on the label on the sleeve: P/N 0KJX6D (Rev. A00)

The recovery DVD reads "Reinstallation DVD Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-Bit" on the DVD.

Is this the correct one to restore an M6700 to Windows 7 Pro?
