I'm not surprised. The Covet chassis is consistently backordered as is the LG IPS display panel. I've gone through 3 M6700 laptops so far. Based on patterns, I'm assuming that Dell receives a single shipment from LG once a month and then builds the systems. If you don't make it in the window or there aren't enough panels then the system gets bumped. So far it has taken 30 days from ordering to receiving each IPS-based M6700.

Why 3? Each one has had a workmanship issue. The first had damage WiFi antenna leads (amongst many other workmanship issues), the second had a damaged primary bay SATA port and tinting of the LCD panel, and the third one (that I got today) has a broken LCD bezel. I'm having Dell replace the bezel. Everything else checks out. I'm disappointed by Dell's QA testing but they've done everything to make me happy. I'm hoping this ordeal is finally over (it started on October 1 with my first order).

If it has already shipped then you're fine.

I ordered my M6700 on December 4th. It was shipped on the 28th according to Dell order status (actually the 30th according to UPS Track & Trace) and charged on my credit card on the 29th.

UPS was supposed to deliver it yesterday (December 31st) but apparently was unable to. Delivery is probably postponed until January 2nd, although UPS Track & Trace isn't updated yet.

    Me too.

This will also be my third M6700. I ordered the first one on September 18th, so it's been 3 and a half months now...

Hopefully, the third time's the charm for me too.

    Hallo folks,

Just received my new Covet and already got a problem :(

I wanted to unmount my internal harddisk (SSD ), so...

    - removed the battery
    - removed the back cover
    - unscrewed the 1+4 harddisk screws
    - used the HD slided button and ... nothing happened !!!

The HD was obviouslu unscrewed but didnt-t "popped" out at all.

With a litthe very very carefull help of a screwdriver, a little piece of the HD showed up,
so I could place my nails behind it and pull the HD out.

    But....together with the HD came a.....SPRING !!!!

    Not normal, was I thinking.

And I'm afraid, if that spring must be placed in hits original position, half the laptop must be dissambled..... :(

What is according to you, dear friends, the best thing to do ?

Wondering if the spring was not installed correctly or got hung up on the drive tray. Hopefully it will be an easy fix under warranty if you do not attempt to fix it yourself.

It's really not so surprising. Just think commercial vehicles which follow a similar option philosophy. It all depends on how you intend to use the product: For a hilly terrain you probably need 4-wheel drive. But if you live in flat country, you may not. Just don't ask for a heavy duty engine and fuel economy too. The salesman might give you a dirty look.
The 3D display was suppose to debut in October along with touch screen but seem to have yet to come to fruition. What gives?

When the M6700 came out, Dell said through all the many press outlets that the multi-touch screen would follow in a few months. Now it's been many months and it hasn't happened, and Dell hasn't told us why. They weren't on the up-and-up with their customers.
Is it now time for me (us) to give up on them and buy another computer (HP), or even the non-touch M6700? I'm concerned that if I do that, Dell will come out with the multi-touch screen right after that.
Is there any chance that Dell will do right by its customers and tell us approx. how long the wait will be (and whether it can use a stylus)? We can then decide how long we're willing to wait, and Dell won't keep disappointing us.

FedEx just dropped off the 2 new Samsung 840 Pro SSDs, the Crucial M4 mSATA SSD and the Corsair Vengeance 16GB 1866 memory.

Install went pretty straight forward. Removing the keyboard bezel and keyboard was fairly painless to replace the 1600 with 1866 memory. The BIOS immediately recognized the 1866/CAS 10 memory. I noticed the keyboard was missing 2 screws after removing the bezel (must have slipped by QA).

The Crucial M4 mSATA drive came with 2 screws which was good (only 1 needed in the M6700, other hole has an alignment pin).

SandraSoft indicates the SATA3 Samsung 840 Pro is about 5X as fast as the spinner it replaces. The SATA3 Samsung 840 Pro also appears to be @ 2X as fast SATA3 Corsair mSATA drive (because of the MoBo's SATA2 interface is choking it).

I cloned the original Dell OEM install, but may do a fresh install after playing with it a while. I may want to get rid of the Intel Rapid Storage software that came with the OEM install. I see it kicking in from time to time and causing the cooling fan to engage.

The WEI Primary Drive and WEI Memory numbers went from 5.9 to 7.9 with the updates.

I held off on getting the 32GB of the 1866 because Dell states that you can only order it with 16GB. I was concerned this was a long term heat or power issue.

Now trying to determine if I should get the UJ252 (tray) or UJ267 (slot) BluRay from EBay. Trying to find performance specs between the 2. That should be the last upgrade for a while.

Also, the thinner Samsung 840 Pro drives fit securely in both slots with the existing Dell caddies.
