Having disassembled the keyboard, it's just a guess, but it is likely that the backlight is actually controlled by the small PCB under it and that it is entirely independent of Windows.

With Dell system manager you can pick from range of 5 sec - 5 minutes, so it is controllable. I try search if there is a reg key.
DFEP sucks :), but it should still have that option.

Edit: doesn't seem like there is a reg key though, it probably store some way else.

I'm continuing thinking guys...I'm not so sure to move to 1866mhz..
Since I have already 2x8 gb 1333 9-9-9 I'm thinking to buy another stick, so to bring my M6700 to 32gb and use, for example a large ramdisk for temp files....I think my global performance will be better than 16gb at 1866 and I will save money for a future upgrade, for example, of cpu...
    what do u think?

RAMDisks are overrated imo, not worth the trouble. That said, if you have RAM heavy programs that would benefit form having 32GB, go for that, otherwise, go for the faster RAM.

Just go notified today that my M6700 that I ordered last week on the 16th of January is being deliverd tomorrow on the 23rd via 3-day Fed-Ex delivery. I had ordered it with the standard delivery, so who knows.

Guess I must have caught them right at the end of a build cycle and caught the first plane out of Malaysia. I am quite impressed with that kind of turn around, now just have to see what kind of shape it is in when it gets here.

Krane, thanks, I might have to look into a mouse like that because now that I think about it, I don't think a dinner tray will be large enough for a 17" laptop and have room for a mouse. I would need a mouse that can track on a fabric couch.

As I suspected, the Elitebook is the only competition, so it looks like I have no other choice but to deal with the hefty size.

Would love to hear how you like your machine once you order it. I'm waiting for a coupon or something to pop up!

    Good to hear, Alls!

Maybe the mouse will work out good for me, after all!

Ehh I've used my XPSm1710 in my lap a ton here with no issues... Think the whole you can't use it in ur lap is really personal preference... I can't use small light ones in my lap now after using the big 8lb 1710...
The only thing that did bother me at times with my device was heat as the 1710 would get extremely hot from the gpu as it was a design flaw in general in that series...

Dunno how heat is handled in the precision line myself but I'd imagine its a ton better than what I'm used to.

Agree with that... My only concern is getting used to the trackpad being offset the middle of the machine now... I'm not used to the full number pad on the right coming from the m1710 here...
