Boy am I late to the party!

Just upgraded from a M6400 which I loved and would happily ploughed on with had this M6700 not come along at cracking price.

It's pretty low spec in comparison to some here, i7-3540M (dual core, four thread), 16GB ram, HD+ screen, M6000 firepro. That being said, it was £120 \o/

I've already robbed the WWAN card (Intel 5530 minicard) from the M6400 to enable the SIM and despite the installer telling me it wasn't compatible with Win10, it works just fine.

Upgraded to dual band wifi courtesy of a Centrino Advanced-N 6235 which also gave me bluetooth (pretty handy seeing as the cable for the BT380 seems unobtainable), an ebay special for just £3!

I always had it in my head that all i7s were quad core so was pretty disappointed to find that when I added more RAM that I had laying around that it wouldn't boot. Guess that's about the time I found this place, more specifically, this thread.

The quest is now on to locate an i7 quad for notalot. Already have the CRYV5 heatsink (according to the Dell build spec) although they list it as being 65W but it's mentioned here as a 55W. Regardless, it'll work (he says with fingers crossed).

First question I'm going to ask is how little you want for it :)

Dunno if I can PM you but I'll give it a go. edit: seems I can't.

Intel site says the same. Posts in this thread say otherwise and yes, I read every single one :)

Does anyone know if you need specifically a nVidia subvendor 980M mxm card or does an MSI subvendor one work? The MSI one I found is ~$30-35 cheaper, that's why Im asking.

MSI should work fine. Worst case, you'll need to flash the vBIOS (but I doubt that will be necessary). Note that it may well not come with a compatible X-bracket so that would be something that you'd have to deal with.

OK, I assume the bracket from my k3000m should work right? Or do I need to find a different one?

No, that will be fine. It is a little tricky to remove from the card, though. You'll need to heat it up to loosen the glue.

MSI subvendor maxwell card work great on the M6700 (I have a 970 MSI on mine), you only need a modded inf for the drivers to be installed :)

Also for removing the bracket on your K3000M be very carefull and try to avoid ripping off smd component, I ripped off some on my K4000M that I should resolder one day
