If you have a receiver with HDMI input, could you try connecting it to the receiver to see if the DisplayPort on the E6410 output full 5.1/7.1 channel audio or just stereo?

    Thanks

Has anyone been able to compare the WXGA (1280x800) vs. the WXGA+ (1440x900) screens on the E6410? I know what the 1440x900 looks like, and it's ok, but the Outlet E6410's I'm looking at mostly have the 1280x800 screens on them. Just want to make sure it's not a major downgrade in terms of brightness/viewing angle to go with the "lesser" screen.

So you want the WXGA screen and trying to get more info or actually want WXGA+ screen but you can't find it? If it is the latter, then I afraid you just missed the lage big dump. Last week I found a dozen of i7-620M w/ nVidia and backlit keyboard. And now I don't see i7-620M anymore, but I'm sure there are a few pop up from time to time.

Look at my images and video of the E6410 WXGA screen a few pages back. I wouldn't recommend it.

Ah yes, that video is quite revealing! Thanks for that, I'll scratch the 1280x800 off the list for sure.

@freeman, I've settled on the "optimal" road machine for my crew and it's an i5-520/540, 4GB, Intel graphics, BT, WiFi 6200/6300, backlit keyboard, webcam, Win7 Pro 64 bit. That slims down my options on the Outlet site quite a bit. Perhaps my request is odd in that I prefer the higher res screen with the "lowly" Intel graphics...

i7 and nVidia graphics are overkill for general business use, and I don't want any potential headaches with heat/battery life issues.

On another note... does anyone else think the "new" Outlet site layout is worse than the old Outlet site layout? The filters don't work correctly, and now I've got to do extra clicks to look at each system configuration instead of the old system where you just clicked on long list of service tag numbers and the details popped up. I suppose they're trying to make it more consumer friendly, but it fails miserably.

I agree, theres no way to go back to the filtered list once you click on a machine.. you have to start over and apply the filters again.

Although I don't remember the old outlet site, I agree the current one is terrible by design. In order to find out what screen it's, I have to click to see the whole configuration. And once you do that, the search filters got reset upon coming back. I believe the refresh of listed may be dued to dynamic live inventory, so Dell can avoid double selling the unit. That said, I don't see a reason to reset the filter option. It's super annoying to have to select specific option everytime you come back.

I've seen your images and video and it really convinced me of one thing:

I want to find out which brand and model of camera you were using so I can make sure I never buy one.

The jury is still out on the WXGA display, but I'm certain that I'll never buy the WXGA+ again. I'll report further on the WXGA, and yes, I'll even take a picture if need be. I'll even focus on the screen and not on the table that the notebook is sitting on.

My WXGA display looks and behaves exactly like gauden44's in the pictures
and video. It's disappointing but I don't have anything to compare it to
other than my six year old desktop display which is infinitely better. I'm going
to wait until some brave person tries a swap for a better LCD panel and then
    maybe do the same.

the filters stay set for me in chrome, but if there are multiple pages of search results, it always goes back to page 1...

the old pop-up design was much faster, not having to reload the main list every time you view a system.

the filters work, but i wish there were more filter options, like for screen type, processor type (not just family), more specific network card info, etc... also, a choice to make them "and" operators, not just "or". Like I want a webcam "and" backlit keyboard--if you check both off now, it will return results with either, an "or" search.
