The adapter here does not get so hot nor tick. Call Dell.

The plug at laptop here will wiggle about 1/8" side-to-side at the cord, but it is not loose, not warm, and maintains contact.

Didn't use driver sweeper but yes I did the restarts and such. I will go lookup on the intel site to see if I have the newest chipset drivers though.

Have you got Express Charge enabled. That uses a higher charging current.

You can check in the service manual but I think that the E64x0's power jack just clips into the chassis and is not mounted on a board. This gives it the flexibility to move a little without breaking any connections.

The ticking is disconcerting. I will talk to Dell. The jack maintains contact, isn't warm but does wiggle.

I looked around to understand ExpressCharge. It seems to be something related to the battery. Is there a software setting to turn it off?

This makes perfect sense. It couldn't be that loose on a circuit board. I'll take a look at the service manual.

thanks to both for your help!

It's among the innumerable options in the BIOS setup. It's probably disabled and I would keep it that way. Fast charging batteries tends to shorten their lifespan.

I have moved the DPC issue into its own thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-latitude-vostro-precision/536708-dpc-latency-nvs-3100m-e6410.html#post6923981

I have to decide on my drive configuration as I have all three drives already. The Samsung SSD really gets its face beat in by the X25-M especially on random performance. I figure its probably going to be the X25-M & WD 500GB in the caddy.

    Possible Configs:
    80GB Intel X25-M G2 SSD + 500GB WD Black (Caddy)
    128GB Samsung PM800 SSD + 500GB WD Black (Caddy)
    80GB Intel X25-M G2 SSD + 128GB Samsung PM800SSD (Caddy)

I've just noticed that my E6410 is starting to get a scratch on the right palm rest as happened on the E6400. Evidently, the rubber bumpers that Dell put on the E6410's display bezel aren't quite big enough to keep the edge of the bezel nearest the screen from touching the palm rest during transportation.

Fortunately, I have some spare bumpers left from the dozen I bought for the E6400.

I knew this will be a problem, as the solution is not more pads, but higher ones. Every laptop has highers pads than the E6000 series.
Since I slide in something (tiny peace of plastic) under each pads to make them higher... the 2 pads of my E6400 does a great job. No more scratch or anything.

    From a comment:

"Sony sells their batteries for $250 and installs code in the BIOS to prevent you from using any non-Sony brand battery"

Anyone know if this is true? Good reason not to buy SONY.

Also lots of complaints about Apple batteries being non-replaceable. Good reason not to buy Apple.
