I think you should invest in a different notebook case, preferably one that doesn't compress the notebook.

I've traveled with far less durable notebooks, with even more modest rubber bumpers, and I've never had the bezel scratch the palmrest. I also have a hard time imagining how much compression it would take to compress the bumpers or bend the screen bezel on the robust E6410. This is one notebook that travels very well.

Again, consider a new notebook case, preferable a hard sided one.

Most laptops don't have screen latches anymore, hence the need for more robust rubber pads and unpleasantly stiff hinges.

    Ummm, bad idea.

Better off buying a decent notebook case.

No thanks. The E series shouldn't need mollycodling. I think part of the problem is that the edge of the bezel isn't quite plane. When I run my finder along it, it seems to bulge out slightly at the point where it is touching the palm rest.

Well, you called it. Express Charge was set to ON in the bios. I unchecked it and the adapter is no longer burning HOT but merely a bit warm as I would expect.

    Thank you!

In that case, you have a bent bezel. From having owned a pair of E6410s, both new, not "Outlet" units, that I've never experienced any contact between the screen bezel and palmrest. I've never mollycoddled any notebook, but I do demonstrate a normal level of care - or at least the level of care that adults used to demonstrate towards business notebooks back before there was a consumer laptop market.

Since you have an outlet refurbished notebook, perhaps you do have a bent bezel? Is there any indication that the screen was replaced on your E6410? This is one of the many reasons why I don't buy refurbished, returned or recycled harware. I have enough problems when I buy new.

Anyway, you might just require a new screen bezel.

It's been mentioned before, but the ultra thin mousepads offer nice protection for the screen while still allowing the latch to catch.

    Two questions.

1.) Can you fit a Thinkpad trackpoint cap in place of the blue and black Dell one? The Dell cap is a little slippery.

2.) How often does a pointing stick normally drift? Mine's drifts several times a day, and I have to lift my finger and wait for it to reset. It's also really easy to notice as you'll find yourself fighting with the pointer to move it a certain direction.

Sorry that this post has nothing to do with your questions but I gotta thank you for mentioning that you can remove the cap. Every time I hit the letter B (I'm a ten-finger typist) I hit the trackpoint instead and it's been driving me crazy.

I just removed the cap and no more problems. Bliss.
