I wonder if maybe they're using two different panels in the e6410? There seems to be a stark contrast in thoughts on the screen, since I've seen other complaints earlier in the thread. I can see how one could call the display I have acceptable, but can't understand how anyone could say it "really looks good"... so that makes me wonder if we're looking at the same thing.

I joked about my fiancee, but she proves the point to me... she really isn't picky/doesn't have an eye for this sort of thing, and i thought she wouldn't have any problem with the screen. i expected an ordeal trying to explain why i wanted to spend more money on a higher-end screen, but she immediately took issue with it, and didn't need me to point out any its shortcomings.

So, how would one check which panel is used? Can we get folks from both sides of the argument to check which panel they've got?

I was pretty sure I saw Dell advertising they used Samsung drives...when you configure an E6410 and get to the hard drive section, click 'HELP ME DECIDE' and look at the pictures. You will see this.

What "bait and switch?" Just because a number of posters have observed that their units shipped with Samsung SSDs, doesn't mean that Dell is obliged to ship Samsung SSDs on every order. Again, you had expectations based on past experience, but there was no binding commitment on the part of Dell to supply hardware from a specific manufacturer.

You paid for 128GB SSDs and you got 128GB SSDs. You didn't specify Samsung SSDs because you can't specify specific hardware. Actually, Dell doesn't specify write speed, so you can't even argue that point.

I don't know that a Lite-On SSD is any less "stable" or "mature" than a Samsung SSD. For all I know, they might come from the same Chinese factory? Are the published specs different? Not a clue.

As I stated, the model number in question is apparently available for purchase, from a Spanish language reseller, with the "Samsung" brand-name, for $199. Now if Dell sold you the upgrade for $350, presumably less discounts, it should hardly come as a shock that Dell makes money on upgrades.

Those "Help Me Decide" images are generic. Dell refers to the SSD option as the "128GB Dell Mobility Solid State Drive [add $350.00]."

Now we all know Dell probably doesn't have a plant in rural China turning out Dell SSDs, but Dell does use 3rd party components. Dell used a picture of a Samsung SSD because Samsung provided them with the picture. Dell didn't make a specific, legal enforceable promise that you'd be getting a Samsung SSD.

see my previous post. Dell blatantly shows pictures of a 128GB Samsung SSD when you click 'help me decide'

As a corporation that images and maintains tons of laptops, we absolutely expect the hardware to remain the same, especially amongst the same laptops! We have a prebuilt spec/quote we use to purchase these machines. Each and every one should be the same, and these ARE NOT.

Dell is advertising Samsung SSDs. I've purchased hundreds of these things equipped with Samsung SSDs. All of our business revolves around the performance level the Samsung SSD produces. These SSD's are 70 MB/sec slower on transfers and .3ms slower on response times.

I really don't understand your argument here at all.

I guess rather than doing the community a favor and alerting them to the change of SSD models (to an inferior model) I should just be quiet and let Dell take advantage of customers?

BS. If it was generic, it would say '128GB SSD' not 'Samsung 128GB SSD'

Well i downloaded everest and found out my monitor has ID SEC5441

also found this online, not sure how reputable it is:

    Monitor\SEC5441 = Samsung
    Monitor\LPL0000 = LG Electronics
    Monitor\AUO1464 = AU Optronics

so according to this I have a samsung, it's at least a starting point, if u want to give it a try to see if you have the same ID?

this last batch of 6410's I received have the LGD0257 WXGA+ display. They look bright and vibrant, I would have no issue using the display.

I'm sure that the (positive) answer is close to the start of this thread. One of the first E6410s also had an E6400 and did a swap to check compatibility.

Also, from Dell's point of view, having the same part simplifies their spare parts inventory management.
