Just curious...why did you opt for 2 sticks of 2 GB RAM (4GB total) and also opt for the 500GB 7200rpm HDD if you are putting in your own hardware once your receive it? could've saved yourself $245 right there.

    on dell.co.uk this configuration with the 4GB RAM and 500GB 7200rpm is only £3 more than the 2GB / 250GB 5400rpm!

No finance, just the model which includes 4GB/500GB as standard has a higher discount on it, and some cheaper upgrades. If you spec the cheaper model up to i7-2720QM, nvidia, 1080p, bluetooth, ultimate-N, they come to the same price within £3

    By the way:
As the Quadcore-CPU needs about twice the memory bandwidth compared to a Dualcore-CPU, I decided to put in 1600MHz-DDR3 instead of 1333MHz-DDR3.
We can use my comfiguration to compare the effects.

As the Sandy Bridge is an one-Chip-solution with a copper heat sink (I think),
I will test some further optimization of the thermal system with one of the best thermal compounds (Phobya Liquid Metal - I just ordered 1g). The results willl be posted in this forum.

I looked, and it was ambiguous. Our company rep indicated they aren't but also claimed they aren't compatible between the E6x00 and E6x10 which definitely ARE compatible. So, will see in a couple of weeks - if they are not, I hope the separate battery SKUs are loaded (weren't as of this afternoon) and that cost of having waited to get it separately isn't too much higher.

E6410/E6510 were also DDR3, and took 533/667mhz; the latter should work in the E6x20. Not sure if the slower 533 will, or if the E6x20 will take advantage of 800 or not.

If you're chummy with the IT guys at work, you can see if they'll let you order via Premier but with your own credit card.

We don't have any E6400 here, but (unlike the D-series) the same batteries work in all three of the models we do have (E6500, E6510, E6410.)
