I'm pretty sure the second data is written to one drive but not the other (if that could happen under *any* circumstance when they are in a RAID 1 array - even by removing one of the drives), the array is corrupted and popping the drive back in wouldn't do any good. I'm also pretty sure this wouldn't be a problem with RAID 1, as it is designed to deal with just that scenario.

When I plugin my Dell bay with 1.8" Drive, it does show me the Raid Menu at boot. Although I never tried configuring one.

I only have tried creating Raid using an E-Sata Drive in IRRT Mode because at the moment I have no second 2,5" hdd.

Does it give you the option to create Raid0?

In IRRT Mode I had only seen the possibility to create a Raid1 Volume.

RAID 0 likely requires two drives of the same size. I don't know if it matters that they are different speeds.

or you could just run regular images of your main partition which houses ur programs and os and put other stuff on a different partition and back it up also

means if it goes wrong you just rebuild the raid array and deploy the image and things were just as they were at your last image

the likes of acronis true image are great for this ...

Something else just occurred to me. Is Intel's Matrix RAID supported by any of the current mobile chipsets, or is that actually what we're talking about?

    One thing I just noticed:

You can boot from the hdd in the bay but only If there's a hdd in the regular hdd slot.

So far the hdd in the bay is working perfectly:)

How does the bay fit cosmetically on the laptop? Does the color and shape match or does it look "alien"?

The colour is slightly different than the colour of the laptop. But if I wouldn't know I hadn't noticed the difference. (See the photos at the beginning of the thread)

The design of the front of the bay is also slightly different than the design of the dvd drive. I sticks out a bit when plugged in the bay (about 4mm I estimate). But that doesn't really matter for me, too.

At the place the dvd drive has the latching mechanism there is any on the hdd bay. So there is a small hole. Perhaps you could attach the latching mechanism of the drive at the hdd bay.

So, considering all it doesn't look alien to me...
