Do you know where I can see an E6400 in person? Is this machine showcased in B&M retail channel at all?

    Thanks!

    GDay Everyone,

I have been lurking in this thread for a while now, and I must firstly thank you all for the great info you have all shared about the E6400.

A couple of weeks ago my work purchased one of these for me to work on.

Pity that my work images on all new PCs a standard Managed Operating Environment, which is currently XP. So the laptop I ended up with had all the Dell drivers, but none of the Dell software. I am curious if there is a Dell application that looks at the current version of drivers and checks the Dell website for any drivers that would could be potentially updated. Or is there any Dell software that you guys definitely recommend installing? The descriptions for the applications on the Dell Download site are near on impossible to figure out what the software is in fact for, it just says the name of the application and that is it. I dont really want to go around installing software if it is going to be of no benefit for me to install.

As for my experiences with my E6400, it is a major step up in performance from my old desktop that was in need of being replaced anyway. It runs all the applications I need it to and I have not had any issues with stability or inconsistencies with using it at all.

The only thing I have done is use I8kfanGUI to change the temps the fan comes on, as I use it with a Dell dock and have 2 20" LCD's hooked to it, and it sits on my desk and the fan seems to want to stay on high all day long, which is fairly loud, well it is virtually silent when the fan is set to slow.

Other then that, I am very happy with the choice to replace my desktop with a laptop.

    Outlet price is $999 minus 20% = $799

Good, now when you'll get it, you'll have fun with it, and get a heart attack and go "where are my 4GB of RAM!!!" and/or "Why my system lags soo much!". And then I'll come and say you need a 64-bit OS to take advantage of your 4GB of RAM, also this will fix any lags if you have some (As in reality 32-bit OS, no mater which one, including Linux, doesn't really support 4GB of RAM, by "support" it means it will boot, but that's about it, thanks to some hacking. SOME (but not all) people (on other, more computer enthusiast forums) found that they see some "lag" (slow down), or "slower system", when they have 4GB and run a 32-bit OS.

Also, make sure you have your OS disk with your system. Some people reported to not have Vista disk.

Naaah, no problems. XP will show my 3.3Gb available to me (more than enough) and system will fly with P9500 and 7200rpm drive. ;)
