If it's YouTube, you can always use the Downloader add-on (or the Get YouTube video add-on) to download the video first for playback. It usually plays back very smoothly this way. Adobe Flash Player is still 32-bit, so I think you are stuck watching YouTube with a 32-bit codec, unless you first convert it to something else.

    Huh? Oh!
    Ok, time for explanation!
Media Player Classic is a 32-bit player, you need 32-bit codecs for it (unless you install the 64-bit media player classic, if it exists)
Shark codec pack is also offered in 32-bit. (you can install both (Shark 32 and 64-bit) without any conflict).

However, if you want a good media player... checkout Microsoft Windows Media Player 11 Vista 64-bit. By default, the 32-bit player runs (which required 32-bit codecs, of course). Shark 64-bit codec pack offers you a 2 tools, where one converts all the files association from the 32 to the 64-bit version of WMP11, and the other tool convert all the WMP11 shortcuts from the 32 to the 64-bit version. Look inside the start menu. These 2 tools execute silently. If nothing happens when you run it, then it did the job correctly. NOW, your problem is solved.

Personally, I installed both Shark 32 and 64-bit codec pack, in the case I fall with a 32-bit software that uses WMP (which is going to be the 32-bit version, of course) at the inside of itself.

On my side I can play ANY video file under Windows Media Player 11 64-bit including MP4's, FLV's, DivX, Xvid and M4V 1080p videos, just by having Sharks 32 and 64-bit codec pack installed. Howveer I did never play real media (man they still exists despite installing all that junk on your computer, even when you pay? And it's not like if it was any good.)

I am not sure if I made myself clear. I said that after installation of the Shark 64-bit codecs, I cannot play back real media files on my 32-bit Media Player Classic. Real media files as in .rm, rmvb, etc. The other formats like divx and matroska work fine in the Vista 64-bit Media Center. Just not the .rm or .rmvb files. If I install the KLite 64 bit codecs, then those .rm files play fine on Media Player Classic.

so any ideas about the stutter? it happens on songs too. i got rid of both of sharks codecs and its still there.

for that matter, my mouse seems like it freezes pretty often too, which i dont understand...

it seems unrelated to cpu usage...its only at like 17% and it does it. same thing in itunes...this is horrible lol.

These are the IDT sound card drivers, not the codec pack.
Uninstall them, check for Windows updates to install the Windows ones, download the latest IDT drivers from Dell, restart your computer, and finally install the just downloaded IDT driver OVER the Windows ones. That fix the problem on my side.

That is strange, I can't find any 64-bit code that reads realplayer format. Are you sure you run a 64-bit media player?

Media Player Classic is 32-bit. Vista Media Center is 64-bit. MPC plays .rm files fine if I install real alternative and the KLite 32 bit or 64 bit codecs. MPC does not play .rm files if I installed Shark 64-bit codecs. I have not tried installing Shark 32-bit codecs. Vista Media Center (32 bit or 64 bit) or WMP does not play .rm files.
