Thanks John. Mine is reported as 84915. On the back of the battery it says 85 kwH, so that seems right. Seems like everything is fine today. Odd.

Hey all. My E6400 comes in tomorrow morning, specs are below. I've been reading the Notebook Review forums regularly for the past few weeks as I debated between an E6400 and a Lenovo T400.
I finally decided on a (mostly) maxed-out refurbished E6400 and am very excited. It came to $1450 after taxes and all.

I'm a student dual-majoring in electrical engineering and computer science. I also work for my school's IT division as a student technician. My work ranges from the mundane (Firefox-Facebook, Word-Reports) to the high-end (programming, PSpice simulations, AutoCAD, and Photoshop)This laptop is intended to last me through the rest of my undergrad and until I have a master's in hand.

I'm coming back to a PC after using a Macbook for three years and finally realizing that I did all my real work in Windows and had upgraded my mac to it's max potential.

From my knowledge, a daily used laptop last about 3 years to 4 years if take good care of it (average), before starting to show issues. So if you take 10 years to ... then well :)

Two random issues that have popped up. I'm not really sure why the Dell logo on the outside of the laptop is so cheaply put on (its just a sticker...), but the second L fell off earlier...It's staying on there right now but it's kinda loose, anyway I can add some more adhesive to that? It actually might look better without the sticker though.

Also, my right speaker grill in the top right corner is a bit loose. I can press down on it and it'll make a clicking noise. Really not that annoying, but that's the only loose part on the entire laptop.

Hello, I am also a new E6400 user. Ordered mine from the outlet for $655 with a coupon.

The right speaker grill on mine is also slightly loose, left side is solid as can be.

It's not really a big issue. but you can actually press it down making that noise even when the lid is closed. Btw, great deal you got. Even better than mine!

sweet jebus this is getting annoying. the audio wont work due to various things: event log service stops, windows audio decides to stop, or there is a DHCP client error. i think something went wrong with my install of windows. i may try repairing vista. this is getting insanely annoying.

also, now that you mention it, my right side speaker is looser than my left.

The right speaker grid? That one is deeply attach on the palm rest. In fact you can't even change it without changing the hole palm rest. Well wtv.. contact Dell for a new palm rest :)
But be warned that my experience with that was the technician for 3 hours.

If I were you, I would carefully clean install Windows in recommended driver order using the latest software, and pause along the way to note how devices are working. You may see some problems go away or confirm a hardware problem.
