Thanks. Is the mic on the keyboard side of the screen or the back? Decent quality? Id be concerned about picking up the noise from typing.

The mic is on the top screen. See that pin hole next to the screen lock thing at the top center of the screen frame? well that is Mic. If you don't have it, then you don't have an internal Mic. Because it's on the screen rather than on the keyboard you don't hear the fan or HDD. However, because you will need to increase the sensitivity of the mic to get the teacher, yuo will hear your keyboard... but not that much. You can hear the teacher pretty well.

The mic is good; I mean it's good for a laptop. As it's a digital mic rather than a analogue it helps in quality, apparently. But this is my first laptop so I can't talk about this, only what I read on some article many months ago. Then the rest is the recording audio quality.
High quality is nice but for a 3hour class... that kinda gets a big file.

I record in MP3 (probably will try OGG soon) at 44 100Hz, 192kps. A 3 hours class already makes 180MB file. putting it in the 48kHz range.. it's way to big. And the quality is good for a laptop recording. You hear the teacher pretty well. I am still experimenting, you should too.

I don't use one because the screen is matte, and I don't have fun thinking that my screen is an iPod touch :)

In one of my experiences, Dell allowed me to replace the CD-ROM on a desktop. I didn't have on-site service and I didnt have to send the unit to replace the drive.

I do the same thing...but my backpack is a one of those Slappa bags, so I've got a huge built in protected pocket. But nonetheless, I haven't had any problems with the keys getting on the screen itself.

agreed with GB. it is absolutely necessary for proper system functionality.

it will depend on the part. I do not believe they allow you to replace the motherboard, but would, for example, allow you to replace the cd drive, probably keyboard, etc.

it is also fixed by the latest available from intel direct. and as noted before, it solves a lot of previously experienced issues!!! I cannot suggest installing this latest version enough!

Dell seem to have left enough space to avoid the display touching the keyboard. I haven't had any problems in over 6 months and my E6400 can get squeezed at times.

The problem I have had is the display bezel marking the palm rest. This won't get any worse since I have now invested in some of these bumpers. You have to cut them down to about half thickness, but they do an excellent job. Dell should be putting them on in the factory.

Has anyone tried applying a custom Visual Theme to Vista on their E6400? I can apply it, but Aero never works for any theme! I'm wondering if its Dell Control Point blocking it from activating Aero, any ideas?
