have you tried installing the latest intel matrix manager from intel direct?

i mean, fair enough, but all of the relevant drivers are picked up by windows or can be installed from dell by using the vista ones, without real issue. the exception being that i havent gotten security stuff working yet, and if for some reason you need DCP, i think most of that doesnt work. but overall, temporarily losing those and gaining all that win7 has to offer is quite worth it, in my opinion. also remember that the time expiry bomb date has been extended until mar 2010.

I'm running all the DCP bits, intel matrix 8.8 and laptopvideo2go drivers on Win7 7000 on my E6500

The only bit I dont use are the security drivers or application.. and the connection manager... but thats because they suck. They might work, I don't know.

hey guess what, I have decided to keep the 1440x900 WXGA+ LED E6400 I have been bouncing back and forth about lolll!!! after 10 days of using this I don't want to send it back. It has improved my microsoft excel tasking and internet exploring tremendously. while the overall font/text size is still a little smaller than i prefer, my eyes have adapted and with the native setting of 1440x900 and increasing the font size to large on the basic display properties (without adjusting DPI) it is sufficient. This screen is just so bright and a real added value in my arsenal when going to starbucks or browsing outside by my pool!

Back to your questions from above (and sorry for the delay in getting back on here this week....)

If my laptop is 1440x900 and the resolution on my HDTV is 1366X768, how do I adjust the resolution on my laptop to the 1366X768?. i went into the nvidia control panel into "manage custom resolutions" and changed the laptop resolution to 1366x768 to match the hdtv but it doesn't allow me to change the hdtv resolution in the settings, only the monitor. i have it set as clone, show the same on both screens. the laptop is readable and all borders showing but the hdtv monitor still cuts off the edges.my concern is for the HDTV to be clear, not as concerned about the laptop since the only time i will be using the hdtv hookup is for watching movies. ALSO, the sound is still not outputting to the hdtv, it is coming only through the laptop, how do i adjust? more than 2 dell tech support reps confirmed the display port to hdmi adapter DOES send through sound, but they don't know how to troubleshoot it lol. anyone know tweaks/adjustments to make this work?

I have spent some time in the NVIDIA graphics card settings and display settings of my latitude e6400 and can't seem to figure out how to properly display ALL of my laptop onto the hdtv? Still, the border is cut off a little... While the picture is crystal clear, it's still cut off a little!

    Please advise!!!

FURTHERMORE--- My small text ultimate solution is that I ordered an external monitor. I THINK? adding a 19" LCD 1440x900 flatscreen monitor to my laptop just a foot away will help me see it a lot more clear/larger right? or will it not be that much difference from 14"? I was browsing around on the net and saw this slickdeal today:
    http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...etail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=320-7459
    109.99 NOT BAD at all!
then i go to checkout and it adds me $16.00 California environmental fee, xxx tax, xxx s/h, etc. and it comes out to $140++

A few minutes later I discover this at tiger direct:
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...tails.asp?EdpNo=4311480&csid=ITD&body=REVIEWS
SAMSUNG=AMAZING (I have a 40" LCD HDTV samsung and LOVE IT..) So I look further into this one, AMAZING specs, amazing REVIEWS, and all in all sounds like a steal... I add it to my cart and guess what? a measly $1.00 for s/h and no BS California environmental sales charges and NO SALES TAX! OTD (Out the door) Price= $131.98 shipped!!

A sidenote, it COMES WITH dvi and vga cables, so you don't need to pay extra... i am going to try it out with just the dvi to dvi cable on my e6400, if i don't think it's good enough i will order the display port to dvi adapter and hook it up through the dvi. i will track back with my results for all who are interested.

I will let you all know how this is when I get it, just ask me (don't want to post more about this in here since it's supposed to be dell notebook related).

In the next couple weeks I plan on doing a full-out review of my latitude e6400 to help all the people on the fence in deciding what their perfect next laptop is! All in all I really like mine, with few gripes, the positives far outweight the idiosyncracies I have with it. take care all.

my volume up and down on screen display doesnt show up nor does my brightness on screen display show up when i use Fn and up or left and right. I notice it happens out of hibernation sometimes. but upon a fresh restart it works fine until it goes to sleep and comes back up. sometimes re-tapping fn left a few times and fn up or down re-sets it, but it's not consistent. it isn't a big deal but it would be nice to have it consistently show your changes op up and down in volume and brightness...

please see the attached files to help in your suggestions/troubleshooting for getting the display right on my e6400 1440x900 to the samsung 40" hdtv 1366x768.. note i can't adjust the samsung from 1280x800 now, it stays locked in at that, even after changing it to the native resolution of 1366x768 in the nvidia control panel, once hitting save it reverts back to 1280x800 for some reason.... it won't allow me to change it to its resolution of 1366x768... i called dell tech support and the guy on the phone is saying something about "overscanning" and "underscanning" and the tv being limited to a certain setting, but not confident he knew exactly what he was talking about. this tv is top of the line with a ton of features im pretty confident the tv isn't limited, i am sure there is a setting within nvidia control panel to further tweak this so there is no cut off on the hdtv border... it doesn't produce a black border or anything, it all runs to the edge of the screen but it just doesn't show EVERYTHING, the outside border is cut off by about 3/4" all around

If you remove the device using the icon in the system tray then it is disabled until you either reboot, search for new hardware or pull it out slight and insert it again (the easiest method).

I stuck the bumpers on the top of the display level. One near the left corner, one near the right and one close to the latch. They are only a few weeks old (I had to get the bumpers delivered to UK and pick them up when I was there).

    John

PS: If anyone else in UK wants some these bumpers, I ordered more than I needed since the shipping was half the cost. Send me a PM if interested.

The nVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M is DDR2 with a memory speed of 400MHz in the E6400. It is GDDR3 with a memory speed of 700MHz in the E6500.

Here are a few benchmark comparisons:
    (E6400/E6500)
    3DMark03: 5278/6544
    3DMark05: 3250/3923
    3DMark06: 1698/2278

It's interesting to note that the seemingly lesser Quadro NVS 150M, even in 128mb form, can outperform the 256mb 160M in the E6400!
